Welcome to BDRUK

Blind Dog Rescue UK is a small charity dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of blind and partially sighted dogs. We work with rescuers throughout Europe to save, provide urgent veterinary assistance for, and find these dogs forever homes in the UK.

We always need foster homes in the UK. As a foster you will help our most vulnerable dogs, allowing them to come to the UK to live with you until they find their forever home.

Laddie is one of our Sponsor only dogs in forever foster. Bruichladdich or Laddie for short is a large Doberman.

Many of our dogs are rescued and brought to foster families in the UK where they receive treatment for any ailments and learn to live in a family home. We fund veterinary treatment, flea and wormers, food, supplements and anything else that is required by our foster dogs to ensure they get back to full health and fitness.

Adorable Astra 💕
We are making a special appeal to get Astra some notice. Is it her wonky blind face that means she gets so little interest?

Born in 2022, c 20kg, and currently in a private shelter in Bosnia, Astra is hoping to leave shelter life behind and find out how lovely it is to live in a home… hopefully before too long.

As a dog who was born without sight, Astra has not had to adapt to sight loss and is extremely well adapted to living a full, happy life.

Astra was found on the street in Bosnia with her brother. Both pups were taken to safety and were lucky to grown up within the security of the shelter and with the companionship of many dogs and the odd cat. Astra’s personality is mild and loving, and she is playful and bouncy with people and dogs and cats. Astra has been neutered.

Astra’s carers at the shelter say she is a very good girl. She has learnt to walk on a lead and is obedient by nature. As she is still a youngster and loves to play, she will need some ongoing lead and other training, as any young dog would.

Astra has not lived in a home before. She may have naturally clean habits, especially as she knows the routine of the kennel, but equally she may need initial guidance with toilet training. She should pick that up with no problem given a little patience.

She has big smiley spotty chops, huge fluffy ears, a floofy tail and a soft mane that is just waiting for someone to bury their head in.

Astra has spent a long time in the shelter so is looking for a patient family to teach her about living in a home environment. She would love a home with a garden and could live with another dog and cats.

This big-hearted, fully sighted youngster (born 2020) is active and playful around dogs, and gentle and calm with people. He will stand and embrace you with such care, and he never wants the cuddle to end.

‘The best dog ever,’ say his shelter carers in Bosnia.

Those of you who noticed Ted’s special marking – the heart shape on his head – may surmise he has some Brittany Spaniel in his breed mix. Certainly he is cheerful, eager to please, of sweet disposition and affectionate.

He’s a bit larger than a Brittany, chunkier and more medium-to-large in size, (Labrador-ish), and he has a gorgeous happy big head. His coat is soft, his tail and legs are fluffy and he has lovely speckles on his back like cinnamon sprinkles on a cappuccino.

Ted loves walks. He walks nicely on a lead and is confident out and about. He trots along in his curious way, happy to explore, happy to share the walk with you, checking back in to make sure you’re ok. He’s such a nice guy.

His carers say he’s a clever chap too, and has learnt everything quickly.

The only thing his carers can say about him that’s negative is that he doesn’t like cats.

But, as long as you don’t need him to like cats, Ted is an all-rounder and will fit in pretty much anywhere. The thing that will make all the difference to Ted is really the simplest things of all: he wants to be around his people and give them all his love.

Super Spotty⭐️
Spotty lost an eye after being hit by a car. But he's happy with his new one-eyed jaunty look! Born in 2023, 9kgs, and neutered, friendly little Spotty is currently in private shelter in Bosnia.

After the accident Spotty ran off before he could be taken be taken to the vets. He was found a couple of days later, but his eye was badly damaged and had to be removed.

Spotty is a cheerful chap who is interested in the world. He is quite the charmer with his honey-coloured coat and fluffy tail. The loss of an eye doesn’t bother him at all and it is healing well. It looks like he’s giving you a wink, and this combined with the way he trots around merrily on his little legs really sums up his personality.

Spotty is very sweet and friendly. He loves to say hello to everyone – people, dogs and cats. They all are greeted with a wagging tail which often turns into a full body wag. Spotty is very happy to have a fuss and a cuddle. He can wear a harness and walk on a lead. He is an active, playful boy who enjoys having a walk and a run around.

No one knows Spotty’s story before his accident. As an attractive little dog with good manners, he may have had a family and lived in a home. What is known is he is a real sweetie who his rescuer says is “absolutely adorable”. A lovely boy waiting to find his loving home.

Marvellous Mr Big ✨
Mr Big is a partially sighted beautiful older beagle. Born around 2016, this lovely boy weighs 10kg and currently in Bosnia.

Mr Big was saved from a public shelter. How he ended up there is unknown, but it’s likely he wouldn’t have survived there long. Thankfully he was rescued and taken into a foster home. His rescuer believes he must have previously had a home and family as he was already house trained.

Mr Big is in good health, is neutered and still enjoys having a run around. He does have some sight as he recognises people and goes for a walk and plays just like other dogs. His piece de resistance is playing when he sees himself in the mirror. He really is quite the character.

Mr Big has big floppy ears, and those expressive eyes that just melt your heart. Coupled with a big heart that is full of love – he is adorable.

What else can we say about Mr Big…. Well he’s very sweet and cuddly. A friendly boy, who is good with people and enjoys their company and having a fuss. He is good with other dogs saying a polite hello with his wagging tail. He is also good with cats and currently lives with both dogs and cats in his foster home. Mr Big can wear a harness, walk on a lead, lives in a home environment and is house-trained. He is an all-round well socialised lovely boy.

Camera-shy Hugo 🥰

Hugo’s lots of good things but photogenic isn’t one of them.

When he sees the camera he does his awkward mournful face and looks wooden and unsure of himself. Hugo! (eye roll) So frustrating!

This boy deserves so much attention but doesn’t get noticed.

Born 2018, fully sighted, 15kg and currently in foster in Serbia, Hugo is our under-the-radar all-rounder, our best kept secret.

Why? Because Hugo’s got it all: friendly, affectionate, loves a fuss, loves people, active, healthy, fully sighted, neutered, good with dogs, has lived in a house and is house trained, and walks beautifully on a lead.

The photography might not be the best, but Hugo has flip-flop ears, a cinnamon coat and a gingery look to his nose and eyes that give him a kind appearance and reserved but unruffled air.

He doesn’t show off his tail much, being camera shy, but it’s a proper curly floof. And he has a lovely gingery grin, when you get to see it.

Hugo’s past was extremely unpleasant. Before rescue, he lived most of his life on the end of a chain. This meant living outdoors in extreme heat and cold, and a life of severe deprivation, with little safety or interaction.

Hugo was identified for rescue, but the owner disallowed it for some time.
It was not until Hugo was found with a severe eye injury that he was removed to safety and received veterinary treatment.

Thankfully Hugo’s sight was unaffected. (Photographs of Hugo’s past are on the website.)

Having wasted so much time unable to go anywhere, Hugo would love to go for walks and explore a bit of the world.

He’s an adaptable dog that will fit in most places, so please do give him a share and don’t let his camera-shyness hold him back!

Calm Max 🍀

Quiet boy Max was found in 2023, a small pup nestled up to his mother, who had died.

Fully sighted, neutered, and about 17kg, Max is sweet, considered, respectful, loves a stroke, is good with dogs and has been successfully cat tested.

His personality is described as ‘calm and gentle’ and his carers say he is ‘a wonderful boy’.

There was one other pup found with Max, a brother who was named Toby. Last year, Toby was adopted and is now living an absolutely wonderful life here in the UK.

Max was the quieter of the two brothers; he is still in a private shelter in Romania, waiting to be noticed.

Although born street dogs, Max and Toby had the advantage of growing up in safety and have turned into beautiful, happy young dogs.

It took Max a little while to come out of his shell, but now he enjoys playing with the other dogs in the shelter and loves a cuddle from the humans.

His carers say Max is considerate of his surroundings; he plays if invited but isn’t a hyperactive pup.

Max is the sunny colour of a yellow Labrador and like that type has a large black nose, dark chops and dark eyes that make a lovely contrast with his light coat. We think he might be Romania’s answer to the Andrex puppy!

He can look a bit thoughtful in some of his photos, and perhaps you’d be forgiven for thinking he remembers his difficult start in life… but then you see him smiling and playing and are reminded of how amazing and resilient dogs are.

Max is a jolly but patient pup with such potential. We hope he doesn’t have to wait much longer.

Luckily she was taken to safety and received veterinary treatment – her pelvis has healed well but her eye couldn’t be saved and had to be removed.

Ellie has unique markings – a jet black head with just a smattering of white on her muzzle. With her white body which has some black dapples, and her spotty front legs she is beautiful. But it’s her soulful eye that is just captivating.

Ellie is a gentle, quiet soul. She hasn’t lived in a home before but is good with people. Although she’s still a little timid, her confidence is growing and her tail is starting to wag. She is learning that people can be kind to her and she enjoys a gentle stroke.

Ellie can wear a collar and harness. She has been on a lead and is happy to wear a coat to keep her warm in the snow. Ellie is good with other dogs. At the moment she is very quiet but it’s likely that as her confidence grows, she will become more playful and active.

Ellie is looking for a calm, quiet home where she can experience love and understanding, to allow her to gain confidence and flourish in her new life. Ellie would love a home with a garden, and would probably like to live with another calm dog to make her feel really comfortable and settled.

HOBBS! The one-eyed cuddle monster who lost an eye due to being badly beaten when only a pup.

Born in 2021, and fostered in Hampshire, Hobbs is 24kg.

It’s easy to fall in love with Hobbs. He’s totally human-centric; loves everyone and has been lovely with children.

Hobbs is housetrained, crate-trained, sleeps through the night, responds to his name, is non-destructive, can be left alone, learns quickly, travels well, doesn’t counter surf… he even eats his greens.

Hobbs is a clever chap, and adventurous spirit too; inquisitive and excited to explore out on his walks. He loves a sniff, loves to play, and would probably be up for some agility training too.

Hobbs can be nervous and reactive outside the home. Hobbs has learnt to walk nicely on lead, but currently reacts to other passing dogs and some other noises or triggers. Because he is a strong and agile dog, it is essential his new owner can manage him physically. We have seen his reactivity improve considerably in foster care over time, but Hobbs is a work-in-progress outdoors and we are looking for adopters who are prepared to put the time into continuing his training.

Hobbs is looking for a calm, kind and understanding person or family who are interested in helping him overcome his anxiety and who will shower him with love. Anyone who meets him thinks he’s more than worth the effort; he’s already pretty much perfect in the home.

Hobbs has lived with other dogs and is currently living with another female dog. He likes a playmate, but Hobbs would also be perfectly happy as an only dog, as he’s human-centric above all. Hobbs needs a good walk or run around everyday. He would love a garden or other safe space he can zoom around in, and ideally he would prefer a quieter, rural home.

Lovely Lucky⭐️
Lucky is an older boy around 10 years old. He is partially sighted, weighs 20 kgs and is currently in private shelter in Bosnia.

Kept on a chain in the yard his whole life Lucky hasn’t had much luck, but hopefully that is about to change. Gorgeous Uno ✨
Uno is a beautiful cat with stunning blue eyes born around June 2024. He is fully sighted but is deaf, which does not stop him enjoying life and sharing his love. Uno is currently in foster in Macedonia.

Uno is playful, adorable and charming. He was found meowing loudly on the streets, hanging out with other street cats that he loves - his guides & friends. He was fed every day by his rescuer and other kind people. However he was still out on the streets where anything could happen to him - from poisoning to cars accidents.

Uno often went missing for days, as soon as he reappeared or was found, he greeted his rescuer with joy, meowing loudly, asking for cuddles and food as he was famished. Adorable Silki😍
Silki is a sweet blind older gentleman (born approximately 2016) and weighs 7kgs. This loving little soul could be someone's perfect companion, and deserves to find his safe haven.

Silki was found scared and roaming the streets of Skopje, Macedonia. It’s likely he was just abandoned and left to fend for himself. Luckily he was rescued and taken to the public shelter with the hope that he may have a chance to being adopted into a loving home. Unfortunately, dogs with special needs are often overlooked and so far no one has shown any interest in this gorgeous little one. The shelter conditions are not a great place for an older blind dog, and although he has shown immense resilience Silki has now been taken into a foster home.

Silki has settled quickly into a foster environment and is already house trained and lead trained. He is just adorable. Silki is a friendly boy who loves a fuss and enjoys being around people. He’s really happy to cuddle up on the sofa and maybe dreams of being an adored lapdog.

Although Thor is a Husky, we suspect he is also descended from The Honey Monster.

He’s an awesome, kingly beast full of joy, life and love. Born around 2014, blind and in a private shelter in Bosnia, whoever adopts Thor is unlikely to suffer a bad mental health day ever again.

Thor has a confident passion for belly-rubs, cuddles, and clumsy, fluffy affection. He’s an undeniably loveable chap with that grinning face, ridiculously impressive candy-floss tail and playful tip-tappy, hop, skip and jump energy.

His cool frosty eyes are really the only giveaway of his age. (The vet has confirmed Thor’s blindness is due to cataracts). Thor is a senior guy, but one of those active, happy types with amazing energy and who can pass for younger. Thor certainly gives age a run for its money.

Little is known of Thor’s early life, but as a pure breed it is likely he was somebody’s pet. Sadly, Thor was abandoned, probably when he lost his sight. It is not known for how long he sat patiently at the side of the road where he was left, waiting for his owner to return. Eventually he was taken to a private shelter.

Thor still adores people, and although he loves the staff at the shelter, he would love to have the opportunity to shower a new person, couple or family with affection again, and be loved in return.

Thor is good with other dogs. Like most blind dogs, he needs careful introductions and doesn’t appreciate being jumped on or bounded up to without a proper hello. He has learned to be respectful of other dogs’ space as he appreciates it for himself now but is accustomed to mixing with dogs at the shelter. Most of all, though, it’s human love he wants.

Thor is still active and would love a garden to leap around in, working that tail. He could be an only dog or live with other calm, respectful or maybe older dog(s).

Beautiful Bella💕
Born around June 2023, Bella is described as a “really sweet companion”. She weighs just over 11kgs, is partially sighted and is currently in Serbia.

Bella was rescued from a kill shelter and was very poorly. She fought for her life for almost a month and is now a happy, healthy girl. Sadly as a consequence of her previous ill health she lost some sight in both eyes, but she’s not letting that hold her back.

Bella suits her name as she’s a pretty lady with her white coat, floppy ears and dark eyes. She has a really nice and gentle character. Due to her weak eyesight, Bella can sometimes be a little bit timid, however she’s easy going and friendly. She reacts very well to people and enjoys their company and a cuddle.

Bella adapted very quickly to living in a home environment and is house trained. She enjoys taking naps and relaxing in her bed and has a medium to low energy level, playing gently when the mood takes her. Bella shares her home with lots of dogs and gets on well with them and has never been a problem. We do not know how she is with cats.

Bella has been introduced to a collar and harness and making progress with her lead training. This is a new experience for her so she’s still a little unsure. It is likely that Bella will need further support and training in this area.

Bella’s rescuer is hoping she will find a gentle and loving family. Someone who will love her deeply and give her a happy and fulfilled life. Someone who can show Bella that life can be a great adventure with so many positive sides - she really deserves it.

Marvellous Mickey 😍
Mickey is a loveable, friendly chap who is around a year old (born 2024). He’s only a little one weighing 7kg, but is full of love. Micky is partially sighted and is currently in Macedonia.

Mickey was a stray dog who was collected by a public shelter to be neutered. Unfortunately, he was not vaccinated and while in the shelter he was diagnosed with distemper. Luckily it was caught early and he received medical treatment, the only consequence is that he is partially sighted (with a blue blurry eye).

That's all in the past and Mickey is now thriving! He enjoys life and doing the same things as any normal healthy dog. His adorable face will instantly put a smile on your face. His character is wonderful - he has tons of love to share with everyone he meets. He is very cuddly and playful and he loves giving kisses.

Mickey has a medium energy level and has started his lead training, although this does need further work. He’s good with other dogs. Mickey has been successfully cat tested. He was a little apprehensive so kept his distance. He should be able to live with cats who are respectful of his space. We don’t know if Mickey previously lived in a home, but at the shelter he sleeps in a bed in his pen.

Mickey is an incredibly friendly and sociable dog, known for his calm nature and gentle interaction with dogs, adults and children. He loves contact with people and is looking to find a home with a lov-ing family willing to share lots of hugs and life moments with him.

MAX! The most beautiful dog in the BDRUK pack?

He’s a rare black German Shepherd, 34kg, born c. 2013 (which means he should still have a few good years
ahead of him given the longevity of his breed); in good health, active, fully sighted, and a lovely, friendly well-behaved boy.

Max’s life in Serbia has been pretty sad. He was owned by someone but kept in disgusting conditions. His owner then gave up on him completely. Max was out on the street. Next he was roughly seized by the dog catchers. Thankfully he was rescued and now lives in a private shelter in Serbia.

Despite years of squalor, hardship and neglect, Max hasn’t given up on people. He loves them. He’s a friendly, affectionate boy.

Max really isn’t asking for much. He likes attention, love, and he likes walks, and he likes a rest. It’s not complicated.

Although he’s a larger breed, Max is not a difficult dog to manage. He is not boisterous and playful. He knows how to walk on a lead and walks well. He is fully housetrained and has always maintained his nice clean manners in the shelter.

Max is good with other dogs, but not unduly bothered by them. He tends to approach other dogs, sniff and move on. We don’t know how Max is with
cats. (He doesn’t much like travelling in the car, as he can get a bit sick).

And, we know it’s not all about looks, but… those ears, that shiny nose, that noble wolfy gait, lovely mane, and that tongue! And the attentive, desperate-to-please way he sits and looks… how is everyone not in love with him?!

MAEVE (MAVIS) 😍

Adoption or Foster sought for Mavis (or Maeve as she likes to be known), a natty little dog of 9kg, fully sighted, born in 2019 and currently in Essex.

Maeve is an ex-street dog turned dainty pet.

She started life in Romania but was adopted through BDRUK in 2023. She’s had a great time with her adopter (a single lady) and been a really good girl, but due to a change in her adopter’s health and circumstances, the lady feels it would be best for Maeve if we found her a new home. Ideally a forever home, but a fosterer who is willing to work on her dog reactivity would also be wonderful.

‘Maeve is an independent Madam’, her owner says, explaining that she is very happy being left for 4 hours or so, settling well, pottering around the house, playing with her favourite squeaky toys, sleeping all night, fully housetrained, snuggling in her blanket and presenting no trouble at all.
She’s cuddly too!

Maeve would need to be an only dog. She is still showing fear and reactivity when she sees or hears dogs out and about on walks. It is thought that with careful training this might be overcome.

Maeve likes people and has her favourites, those she takes to especially. She prefers gentle introductions; in fact she prefers to be left to come over and introduce herself in her own time. She has been great with visiting children.

Adoption or Foster sought for Mavis (or Maeve as she likes to be known), a natty little dog of 9kg, fully sighted, born in 2019 and currently in Essex.

Maeve is an ex-street dog turned dainty pet.

She started life in Romania but was adopted through BDRUK in 2023. She’s had a great time with her adopter (a single lady) and been a really good girl, but due to a change in her adopter’s health and circumstances, the lady feels it would be best for Maeve if we found her a new home. Ideally a forever home, but a fosterer who is willing to work on her dog reactivity would also be wonderful.

‘Maeve is an independent Madam’, her owner says, explaining that she is very happy being left for 4 hours or so, settling well, pottering around the house, playing with her favourite squeaky toys, sleeping all night, fully housetrained, snuggling in her blanket and presenting no trouble at all.
She’s cuddly too!

Maeve would need to be an only dog. She is still showing fear and reactivity when she sees or hears dogs out and about on walks. It is thought that with careful training this might be overcome.

Maeve likes people and has her favourites, those she takes to especially. She prefers gentle introductions; in fact she prefers to be left to come over and introduce herself in her own time. She has been great with visiting children.

Uka was found skinny and struggling in the public shelter. She was removed by her rescuer and originally named Uske which means the “one with the big ears” in Bosnian. With her white coat, expressive dark eyes and her amazing ears - Uka is absolutely stunning.

Nesta (was Nala) 🎉

An adorable blind Spanish Mastin cross, Nesta was born in 2023, and is 25kg (although it is likely she still has some growing to do). She is fostered in Cheshire.

Nesta was found wandering the streets of Hellin, Spain. She was mercifully rescued into a Spanish foster home where she lived with another dog and lots of cats, all of whom became her friends. Currently she enjoys three other blind dogs as companions.

Nesta knows and responds to her name, has excellent recall, is fully house trained and is very polite and sociable with other dogs. Her personality is gentle and tender, and she wants to be loved very much. Nesta seeks out her human, follows them around and sits loyally with her head in their lap.

Outdoors Nesta enjoys running free like a typical puppy loving life. Her puppyish enthusiasm does mean she can be clumsy sometimes; she loves goofing around ragging a tea towel! The right adopters will find her idiosyncratic quirks and traits endearing – the slightly odd gait to her walk, her preference for turning always to the right.

Given her difficult start in life, it is understandable that Nesta is a little nervous. She has always been wary of men and although she lives in a female-only home currently she has responded well to increasing exposure to men out and about. Her fosterer is confident she could live with men as well as women just as long as the right adopters are prepared give her time to trust.

Nesta will take time to settle in a new environment, perhaps spinning or showing signs of stress and anxiety in her new environment initially. Her fosterer is working on her fear of vehicles, gently giving her time in the car every day. Nesta’s response when scared is never aggression or defensiveness: her default is to back off or attempt to flee. Nesta has responded excellently to training.

She currently lives in a quiet, rural home and would prefer to be around fewer vehicles.. She would like a fairly active household with experience of large breeds and can live with other dogs and cats.

Joyful Joey😍
Joey is a very friendly, partially sighted boy. He was born in 2021, weighs around 20kgs and is currently in private shelter in Bosnia.

Joey used to live at a gas station in the city with his friend Lada, before they were taken to an awful shelter which was later closed by the authorities. Luckily they were rescued and taken to a private shelter. Lada has already found her forever home and Joey is hoping it’s his turn next.

Joey is real sweetheart – he loves children, adults and dogs. He shares his living space with multiple dogs and never causes a problem. He is happy to sleep and play with the other dogs, currently he prefers to eat separately. He been successfully cat tested, behaving beautifully and saying hello with a gentle sniff and a wagging tail.

Joey is well behaved around children and adults. So far, he’s not a playful dog that will go chasing after a ball, but he has probably never had the opportunity to learn to play with people. However he does like getting strokes and cuddles and enjoys being around people wagging his whole body when you talk to him.

Joey walks well on his harness and lead and is friendly to other dogs when meeting them on walks. He has a medium energy level and matches his pace to whomever is walking him. He would be happy to go out for walks with his family.

Joey maybe missing an eye, but he is always happy to say hello, wagging his tail and giving his love to everyone. While he has never lived in a home before, he’s a very good boy and would love the chance to learn all about the joy of home comforts and being part of a family.

Lucy (was Maxine)! 😍

Lucy is a very beautiful and unusual looking dog with her curly coat, fluffy cheeks and magical amber eyes.

Born in 2018, fully sighted and weighing 16kg, she is thought to be a Pulini cross. Originally rescued from the streets of Serbia, Lucy is beginning to show her patient, sweet and charming character in her foster home in Cornwall.

She has recently changed her name from Maxine to Lucy, which she definitely prefers.

Lucy is a sensitive girl; she takes time to trust and will probably always be a little timid in a new space. She bonds closely with her primary carer from the start, tends to be a little shier with men and children, and feels initially nervous when new people come to the house.

Despite Lucy’s timidity (which is almost certainly due to experiences in her past life as a street dog) it doesn’t take her long to show herself as the sweet, human-orientated dog that she is. Lucy loves a cuddle, an ear-scratch and a chin-scratch. She will do that adorable thing of pressing her head into you to receive the attention. She loves a brush. She is attentive and loving and would make a lovely companion dog; it is likely she will always choose one special person with whom she feels especially safe.

Lucy is housetrained and walks beautifully on a lead.

Currently Lucy shares a home with 20 cats and 10 dogs. She’s brilliant with cats; she enjoys playing with the other dogs and she copies and learns from them too. She shares happily and has no food aggression, and sleeps though the night with the rest of the pack.

Lucy would like a quieter household, probably adult-only, although we would consider older, respectful and calm children present. She can live in a family but would also make a super companion for a single person. Lucy probably needs another dog or two in the home to make her feel really comfortable and settled. Aka & Hiwa 💕

A ready-made dog family! Aka and Hiwa are an inseparable couple: a devoted brother and sister who have spent their lives looking after each other.

Born in 2018 and weighing around 25kg, Hiwa is the confident, sighted friendly girl, black with four white slipper socks. Aka is the beautiful one with his foxy face and eye-liner markings. He is also very friendly, calmer by nature, and blind.

You might not have considered adopting two dogs. But anyone who already has two dogs knows how they look after each other and keep each other company. And Aka and Hiwa have a very special strong bond. When settling into your home, not everything will be new to them as they will have each other. Their love for each other will be a known quantity for you; a very special thing to observe. Both Aka and Hiwa are good with other dogs too, so they can join your existing dog or dog family.

This special bonded pair were found on the street in a Bosnian winter at only two months old. They have spent their lives together in a private shelter where they have been loved and well cared for, but they have never had the attention they would so adore, never had their own family or lived in a home.

Both Aka and Hiwa adore human affection and attention. Aka has previous experience of living indoors (when he visited a clinic for investigation into his blindness), - he behaved beautifully. Both dogs can walk on a lead. Hiwa may pull a little through excitement, but she soon settles down. Aka does not pull.

Although they are bonded, Aka and Hiwa are independent too – in fact it’s hard to get photos of them together as they are often off playing or exploring solo when they get the chance. Both embrace life and will need plenty of exercise and walks. They are two perfect dogs in their own right, but one delightful combo of tongue-lolling, curly-tailed joy.

Aka & Hiwa are currently in a private shelter in Bosnia and would love a home with a garden and lots of walks. They must be homed together.

You might not have considered adopting two dogs. But anyone who already has two dogs knows how they look after each other and keep each other company. And Aka and Hiwa have a very special strong bond. When settling into your home, not everything will be new to them as they will have each other. Their love for each other will be a known quantity for you; a very special thing to observe. Both Aka and Hiwa are good with other dogs too, so they can join your existing dog or dog family.

This special bonded pair were found on the street in a Bosnian winter at only two months old. They have spent their lives together in a private shelter where they have been loved and well cared for, but they have never had the attention they would so adore, never had their own family or lived in a home.

Both Aka and Hiwa adore human affection and attention. Aka has previous experience of living indoors (when he visited a clinic for investigation into his blindness), - he behaved beautifully. Both dogs can walk on a lead. Hiwa may pull a little through excitement, but she soon settles down. Aka does not pull.

Although they are bonded, Aka and Hiwa are independent too – in fact it’s hard to get photos of them together as they are often off playing or exploring solo when they get the chance. Both embrace life and will need plenty of exercise and walks. They are two perfect dogs in their own right, but one delightful combo of tongue-lolling, curly-tailed joy.

Aka & Hiwa are currently in a private shelter in Bosnia and would love a home with a garden and lots of walks. They must be homed together.

Thomas is an intelligent, affectionate, well-trained youngster with a very cute nose!

Born in 2023, blind, and weighing 23kg, he’s currently living in Leicestershire but is looking for a new home due to his owner’s change in circumstances.

Thomas is described as ‘the most loving and gentle dog’: he enjoys sharing his current home with cats, humans and another dog with special needs.

Thomas has been living in his current home for a year, and in that time has proved extremely smart and trainable. He loves learning new commands; loves handling, and being active with his owner and would be a great candidate for agility. He already has his recall down pat, as well as several other commands and routines. He has a medium energy level physically, but benefits from a higher level of mental stimulation and activity. He’s a clever boy, and very food-motivated, so easy to work with!

Thomas is well behaved in the home, quiet, settling easily, taking himself off to his crate to chill out. He’s not difficult at all. He travels well, and loves the car, isn’t nervous or sound sensitive, and can be left for up to four hours.

Originally from Romania, Thomas was surrendered to a shelter on account of his blindness. As the condition is genetic and stable, it doesn’t hold him back, and he’s extremely well-adapted.

However, Thomas has a particular routine for such occasions that has been put in place by a behavioural trainer: his owner makes sure he has a proper introduction and short walk around with them. This reassures Thomas and from thenceforth he is welcoming and friendly to everyone to whom he has been introduced. Thomas prefers space out on walks therefore and will need an owner who is prepared to confidently put this routine in place for him, so that he can comfortably enjoy making new friends.

GENTLEMAN ROCKY 🎩
Rocky is a polite, retired German Shepherd gentleman with a wry sense of humour. He weighs 30kg, was born in 2016, and is currently fostered in Coventry.

Rocky walks beautifully on the lead; accepting a head collar willingly so he's easy to walk. Rocky is sedate, considerate and rarely pulls. Having worked for most of his life as a security dog for a business in Spain, Rocky has been carefully trained and is sociable, friendly and calm when meeting people. He accepts his treats very politely, travels beautifully in the car, and is quiet and restrained in the house (except when he plays, and then he is very vocal!).

Rocky is clever and slightly mischevious and makes his fosterer laugh every day with his antics. He likes to steal the things she leaves lying around and then bring them over to show her. Rocky loves to be involved in everything that is going on and would happily do activities such as scent training and obedience. His love of food makes training even easier!

Rocky loves to be around his humans, but can become anxious and bark when he is not around them, or when they are closeby but not in reach.

Although retired, Rocky is healthy, active, playful and very mobile; not showing any signs of slowing down. He was retired because he has Pannus (inflammation of the cornea). This is easily managed with eye drops and ointment (approximately £56 per month) and does not stop Rocky living a full life. Rocky would love to accompany you on lovely long walks and adventures. As he is very sensitive to having his claws clipped and has needed sedation previously, pavement walking would be very helpful!

Bailey is always delighted to see people; he absolutely adores being cuddled. He has the most beautiful colouring and markings on his face, and huge soppy eyes which he uses to look curiously at you while he’s waiting patiently for his evening treat. He also does a little dance when he knows it’s supper time.

Bailey’s a confident dog – not scared or nervous at all. He’s energetic at playtime and loves zooming around in the paddock or chasing a ball. He looks so pleased with his tongue lolling out when he’s nice and tired. He’s an obedient dog who walks very well on the lead.

Bailey has lived in a home before, both with and without other dogs. He developed guarding behaviours in both environments.
He is currently living in kennels where the opportunity for this is reduced but is still in evidence – particularly with high value lasting treats like bones.

We are looking for an experienced and understanding owner for Bailey (possibly a single person) who is prepared to work with the likelihood of this arising again. In particular, we would suggest he is not given bones or high value lasting treats.

Although Bailey is not dog reactive and happily ignores his kennel neighbours, we expect he would be best suited as an only dog. He could live in a family with children aged 16+.

Tenacious Tiggy 💕
Tiggy was born in summer 2024 and is currently in foster in Macedonia. She is fully sighted and is very special. Here is her story...

Tiggy is a small female kitten that was found abandoned, she approached the rescuers by herself and immediately started petting and purring.

They immediately noticed that both of her hind legs were paralyzed, with sores all over, meaning she had been left to fend for herself for some time. She was taken to the vet and an X-ray was done showing that due to some kind of accident, she had 2 broken vertebrae. For that reason, Tiggy is incontinent and needs to be expressed regularly.

Apart from this flaw, Tiggy is a wonderful kitten who is friendly with both cats and dogs, and most of all with people. She loves to be cuddled and to be around people.

Her disability does not hold her back, she is determined to do everything that other cats do. She can climb on the couch and in other places by herself.

Tiggy is vaccinated, rabies vaccinated and micro-chipped. She will be FIV/FELV tested.

Tiggy is looking for a home that understands her unique special needs and provides her with the lifetime care she needs to stay happy and healthy
