Welcome to BDRUK

Blind Dog Rescue UK is a small charity dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of blind and partially sighted dogs. We work with rescuers throughout Europe to save, provide urgent veterinary assistance for, and find these dogs forever homes in the UK.

We always need foster homes in the UK. As a foster you will help our most vulnerable dogs, allowing them to come to the UK to live with you until they find their forever home.

Laddie is one of our Sponsor only dogs in forever foster. Bruichladdich or Laddie for short is a large Doberman.

Many of our dogs are rescued and brought to foster families in the UK where they receive treatment for any ailments and learn to live in a family home. We fund veterinary treatment, flea and wormers, food, supplements and anything else that is required by our foster dogs to ensure they get back to full health and fitness.

Lovely Lola 💖
This beautiful, gentle shaggy dog is called Lola. She’s a little deaf, a little wonky and partially sighted, but she’s very friendly, loyal and loves to be around children.

Born c. 2016 and c.25kg, Lola is in a foster home in Serbia but is hoping for a pampered retirement here in the UK.

Could you spoil her rotten?

We think Lola was a street dog for most of her life, relying on the kindness of locals. As she aged, Lola would have found it harder to run from the dog catchers. Inevitably she was caught and, sadly, taken to a high-kill shelter. One of our rescuers saved her and took her to live in foster with her own parents.

Now used to living in a home, Lola is housetrained, neutered and is used to walking on the lead. She likes a cuddle. She is curious and attentive and is relatively active for a golden oldie. Lola likes her walks, if they aren’t too long or it isn’t too hot outside!

Lola adores children and walks with them so nicely but is friendly and gentle with everyone. She bonds very closely with her carers and is very loyal.

Perhaps due to her blindness, Lola can be wary when meeting new dogs, so adopters will need to ensure introductions are done respectfully and slowly.

Although Lola is still a beauty, she’s had a tough life, and it shows. She has some missing teeth, and the ones left are not in great shape. She is partially sighted due to cataracts and has reduced hearing. Her whole left side is a little wonky. But Lola takes this all in her stride, in her gentle, noble way. That makes her even more adorable.

Lola’s rescuer wants her to find comfort in her old age, with adopter(s) who have some idea of how difficult her life must have been. Can you help us find that place?

Lola can live with other dogs, pending gentle, patient, experienced introductions. She could also live as an only dog. Lola would make a lovely companion.

A garden, some short walks, a few cuddles and a comfy bed with someone who’s around a lot of the time would make this lovely old lady’s hard life really worthwhile.

This is Lord 😍
Our chocolate puppy with amber eyes. Lord was born in January 2025 with an underdeveloped cornea in one eye. That eye is blind, the other is fully sighted. He is currently in foster in Serbia.

Gorgeous Lord had a very rough start in life. His mother and siblings were taken to a “shelter’’, but due to awful conditions it was practically a death sentence. The puppies contracted parvo virus and so began a battle for their lives. Although rescuers stepped in as soon as they heard about the family, only Lord and his mother, Lolita, survived.

Now Lord is a happy, healthy boy and weighs 8kgs. He is full of life and goofy puppy love, giving everyone lots of smiles with his antics. He is chocolatey goodness with big puppy paws, a nose like a massive chocolate button and a little pup beard. He is still a baby so enjoys lots of play and lots of love.

Lord is used to living with lots of dogs and is a happy, friendly boy with other dogs and people. He’s grown up in a loving, safe home environment which shows in his personality. He is used to wearing a collar and harness is learning to walk on a lead. Lord hasn’t had the opportunity to meet cats but is young enough that he may be able to live with them with sensible introductions.

Lord has completely forgotten about his past but is missing the final piece of his puzzle… a forever home. The rescuers who fought for him just want him “to be loved and happy in his new home, with a loving family that will completely change his future."

Lord would love a home with a garden, with a person or family who will give him the life and love he deserves. He can live with other dogs for company and playtime.

Saffy is a gorgeous, smooth-coated red Dachshund; born November 2024, weighing about 7kg, and fostered in Cornwall.

She was born blind and has wobbly back legs (both, the vet confirms, are due to neurological issues).

We are looking for a very specific home for Saffy. She has been to three homes and been returned three times.

Now she is back with her original, consistent foster family, living with two teenagers, 14 dogs, several cats and other animals. In this environment, where she mixes freely, amuses herself and is not overstimulated by people, she is absolutely thriving.

The reasons for Saffy’s failed adoptions could be summarised as follows:

Like many blind dogs, she needs her dog companions to be calm and respectful, not quick to react if she bumps into them.

She needs her home to be quiet-ish and calm; she does not do well with noisy young children and frenetic energy.

She is an affectionate and sweet little dog, but she likes attention on her own terms, when she comes to ask for it. She does not like to be picked up, smothered with fuss, overstimulated or made to sit on a lap or sofa.

Due to her hind legs, she doesn’t need much walking. Pottering around and maybe one short walk a day is plenty.

Saffy is actually a very low-maintenance dog who doesn’t ask for much in order to be happy: she wants to mooch around doing her own thing and have a cuddle or two when she asks for it.

Food, crate, toys, independence, steadiness, safety: happy.

Saffy is house and crate trained and travels well. She can be left alone for short periods.

Sweet Srećko 😍
Are you looking for a sweet little dog who’s very affectionate and friendly to everyone? The kind of dog that everyone on the street knows and loves?

Well then meet Srećko - born March 2024, 8kgs, partially sighted and currently in a private shelter in Macedonia.

Although Srećko was a much-loved neighbourhood dog who everyone enjoyed greeting every day, one local man attacked Srećko and beat him repeatedly until he lost consciousness. Thankfully, kind neighbours rushed him to the vet and saved his life.

Srecko recovered very well overall but had a swelling on his head where he took most of the impact and he lost sight in his right eye. Back in his neighbourhood, Srećko was attacked again by the same man. This time, his friends knew he couldn’t stay on the street and had him removed to a private shelter.

Srećko is now recovered; happy, healthy and ready for a forever home. He has no sight in his right eye, but nothing he’s endured has changed his lovely personality.

Srećko is very affectionate and loves people. He is happy to have gentle strokes and will come back to ask for just a little more love. This sweet soul was born to be someone’s best friend and has markings on his face that make a little smile.

Srećko is good with dogs and can be cat tested if required.

Srećko has a medium energy level and is being introduced to a collar and lead. This is still a new experience for him so he will need further training in this area.

Srećko means ‘Lucky’ or ‘Good Luck’. Although he’s had some rotten luck, his rescuers feel certain his destiny is a happy one. Srećko has never lived in a home or known the safety of being curled up in his own bed, but his rescuers have asked us if we can find someone who will ‘show him what true love and safety really mean’. Could that be you?

Meet Molly (born March 2025), a beautiful fully sighted girl who is currently in private shelter in Serbia. Molly is neutered and weighs 6-7 kgs. She is a typical happy, healthy puppy.

Molly is gorgeous and despite her little legs she’s very active. Like most pups her age she’s a playful girl, is friendly and full of fun. Molly has met a parrot and a rabbit in the vet clinic and has been fine with both. She has been successfully cat tested and showed little interest in the cat and just wanted some attention from her carer.

Adorable Nora ✨
Meet Nora, an adorable blind black kitten born Summer 2025 and currently in foster in Macedonia.

A local animal lover posted her on Facebook asking for help for a kitten with infected eyes. She was immediately taken to the vet for initial treatment and continued medical treatment in her foster home. Her infected eyes healed, but sadly there was nothing that could be done for her sight and she is blind.

Nora quickly adapted to life as a blind kitten. Nora uses her other senses to help her navigate and map out her foster home. She’s a curious, clever kittie who loves people. If she’s not playing, she looooves a cuddle. Nora is good with cats and dogs. She is perfect in every sense of the word and will give her family lots of love and endless purrs.

Nora is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and FIV/FELV negative. She can travel from October 2025.

Nora is looking for a loving indoor home with someone who will love her and give her lots of cuddles.

Talia is a beautiful blind tuxedo kitten born Summer 2025 and currently in foster in Macedonia.

Talia was abandoned with a severe respiratory and eye infection. She was found in a local dumpster, which is a home for over 30 cats in the area. Talia was taken to the vet and then onto the safety of a foster home where she could receive proper care.

With regular veterinary treatment and the loving care of her foster home, she was able to slowly open her eyes. Sadly she lost her sight and one of her eyes needs to be removed.

Talia is gentle soul and has very loving nature. She is good with other cats and dogs. Talia is a so quiet that you will hardly know that you have a kitten in the house. She loves to be held and spends most of her day sitting waiting for someone to pick her up and give her a cuddle.

Talia is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and FIV/FELV negative. She can travel from October 2025.

Talia is looking for a loving indoor home with someone who will cherish her and give her lots of cuddles.

This is Mihai 💕
He is blind. He was once chained, abandoned, shot and wounded. Now he is this beautiful, healthy young dog! Born 2023,10kg and measuring just 30cms to his shoulder, Mihai is currently in a private shelter in Romania.

Mihai was discovered on the streets in late 2024 with chain marks on his neck. At the vets, a bullet was found in his stomach and a hernia in his diaphragm. The vet was able to remove the bullet and repair the hernia. Mihai is now healthy (and neutered).

Despite his terrible start in life, Mihai is described as “confident and very loving”. He enjoys human company and loves to be around people. Mihai is playful, likes to explore and has a medium energy level. He is alert and interested in life, not a shy or nervous dog. His carers tell us he will say a friendly hello to strangers and “is happy to have strokes from anyone”.

While Mihai loves people, he is nervous around other dogs (presumably due to his past experiences) so he would like to be your only pet.

This is Mihai 💕
He is blind. He was once chained, abandoned, shot and wounded. Now he is this beautiful, healthy young dog! Born 2023,10kg and measuring just 30cms to his shoulder, Mihai is currently in a private shelter in Romania.

Mihai was discovered on the streets in late 2024 with chain marks on his neck. At the vets, a bullet was found in his stomach and a hernia in his diaphragm. The vet was able to remove the bullet and repair the hernia. Mihai is now healthy (and neutered).

Despite his terrible start in life, Mihai is described as “confident and very loving”. He enjoys human company and loves to be around people. Mihai is playful, likes to explore and has a medium energy level. He is alert and interested in life, not a shy or nervous dog. His carers tell us he will say a friendly hello to strangers and “is happy to have strokes from anyone”.

While Mihai loves people, he is nervous around other dogs (presumably due to his past experiences) so he would like to be your only pet.

Pigo was found in the rubbish as a pup. He went straight into foster care, so grew up in a home environment. He bonded closely with the lady who looked after him even enjoyed the privilege of sleeping on her bed.

However, when his carer took in a new dog, Pigo was moved outside to the yard to join her existing pack. Pigo tried his best as a gentle blind chap to cope and make friends, but the other dogs bullied him, ate his food, chased him away and soiled his bed.

Pigo has been removed and has a new foster home. His new fosterer describes in as a ‘gentleman’ and a ‘sweetheart’ who loves to be cuddled and who knows he is now safe.

He is calm and friendly with all people, cats and dogs. Due to his past experiences, Pigo may take a little time to build confidence around new dogs. However he is mixing nicely with the other dogs in his foster home and always greets them politely.

Pigo has been checked by a vet and is underweight at 17kgs. His ideal weight is around 24kgs. Already Pigo is starting to feel better and is due to be neutered in a few weeks.

Pigo walks on a lead and loves to go for a walk. He enjoys running and playing during walks. Once he's home, he prefers a calm environment to relax, unwind, and sit quietly or have a doze in the sun. He’s a calm boy, so a calm home without excessive noise would be ideal for him.

An incredible survivor looking for a loving home.

This brave kitty was rescued four months ago after being hit by a car and left on the street. He had a broken jaw that required surgery, and one of his eyes had to be removed. He also had significant swelling on his head. No one was sure he'd make it, but he's a true fighter!

Despite everything, he is now healthy, back to his normal weight, and eating on his own. He's adapted amazingly well to being blind and knows his way around the house. He’s full of love and enjoys being fussed. He's a friendly chap and is good with cats and dogs.

We have elderly frail Arthur who is Leish-positive, tiny scruff Wilson, Lisa with her tumours and wonky legs, Oscar who was kept alone and half-starved on the end of a chain for most of his life, Beryl the ‘Hopping Wolf’; or Flora, traumatised by abuse.

A handful of the dogs we rescue are so badly psychologically damaged or require such costly or specific ongoing medical treatment that they never make it to adoption.

We find these dogs caring and experienced ‘forever foster’ homes here in the UK where they are loved and have all they need for the rest of their lives.

This costs a great deal - Lisa has been on treatment that cost £600 per month.

We already have several kind supporters who sponsor one or more of the special six, but we could really do with more.

Princess Lia 💕

This 6kg bundle of honey-coloured cuteness is Lia. She is partially sighted, born c.2018 and in foster in Macedonia.

With her tiny smiling smoosh face and her funny little dance, you’d be forgiven for thinking Lia was a Princess who had always been showered with love. But Lia was rescued from living on a chain in poor conditions. As is shown in some of her photos, she was then a poor dejected girl.

But with a bit of love her true personality has soon shone through and she is adorable - quite the Princess Lia after all. Lia has embraced her new life living in a home. She enjoys sleeping on the sofa and loves receiving cuddles and attention; she has a calm, friendly, clever personality. She’s bright as a button and loves to play.

Lia is currently receiving veterinary treatment for her eyes. At some point in her sad past her right eye was injured. She is blind in that eye (it may need to be removed). She has sight in her left eye. Lia is also due to be neutered in a few weeks’ time.

Lia is good with cats and dogs and currently lives with both. She is happy to wear a harness but may need some further lead training. She only has little legs and is fairly low energy so would probably be happy to go out for shorter walks to see the world.

Lia would love a home where she gets treated like the princess she is. She would love a sofa and maybe a lap to curl up on, where she gets lots of love and fuss. Lia is human-centric so is best suited to be an only dog or with one playful dog companion.

Lucky Luka

Our ruggedly handsome Luka (born c. 2015, 24kg) is a clever partially-sighted chap who’s also very affectionate. His Norfolk foster-mum would love to keep him, but she knows Luka needs a stronger owner, and suspects also he would like a man about the house!

Before early 2025, Luka lived his whole life on the end of a chain in a yard in Bosnia, acting - supposedly - as a guard dog. His scarred face and broken teeth suggest he had been attacked by other dogs whilst left to fend for himself. Finally, when Luka’s owner wished to relocate, he was going to dump Luka in the woods. Luckily our rescuer found out and saved him.

Since coming to the UK, Luka has really come to life. His foster Mum thinks he’s younger than the estimated age on his passport. He is stronger and has a higher stamina level than when he was the sad old chap of his previous existence. That said, he is not hyper and restless, he is the quiet controlled type with lots of invisible determination.

Luka is strong on the lead. Also, because of his partial sight, he can glimpse potential threats in the distance and react strongly. He can be jittery out and about and wants someone to look after him who gives him firm routines, firm boundaries, straightforward commands, and good exercise. He needs a strong presence who makes him feel protected.
Luka is super intelligent and quick to learn - he has several commands down pat. He would enjoy intensive training such as parkour, playing football, ‘yomping over hills’ or just long walks.

Luka is good with dogs but like many with restricted sight, he doesn’t want to be taken by surprise and prefers to make relationships slowly. He lives with a cat (of whom he's a bit scared!).

Luka would like a home with a garden, with routines and daily exercise for him with someone who can handle a 24kg dog who is strong on the lead. He could live with other dogs and cats, pending the correct introductions. He loves men but would also love a family. Given he can be nervous out and about, a quieter location would work best for him.

Marvellous Matche 💖

Matche survived the unthinkable – now she needs a forever home.

Last summer, this brave girl was hit by a car, left with multiple skull fractures and a broken jaw. She was in critical condition, blind in both eyes, and fighting for her life. Her journey of recovery has been nothing short of a miracle.

After intensive care and a complex eye surgery (one eye had to be removed), she is now safe in a foster home, as healed as she can be. Her jaw doesn’t work perfectly, so she eats blended food and she has no vision – but none of that stops her from living her life fully. She’s a true survivor.

This is her story.
Matche spent three years on the streets, never knowing the safety of a home. She gave birth twice, but her kittens were taken away. She was neutered but never managed to find a home - just a makeshift shelter and regular feeding, thanks to a few kind people who cared.

She was an active, strong cat; always hunting, always full of life. Until that tragic day.
After the accident, she couldn’t see, smell, eat, or even use the litter box. But she fought through it all. Now, she navigates her foster home with confidence: she knows where her litter box and food are, and she uses them perfectly.

She lives peacefully with two other cats and children. She loves cuddles, is endlessly sweet, and just wants affection.

Matche is around 3 years old and fully adapted to indoor life as a blind cat. She is fully vaccinated, microchipped and FIV+FELV negative. Her current foster family loves her dearly, but they work in shifts and can’t give her the constant presence she craves.

What she needs now is a loving forever home. She deserves a quiet, loving home, where she can continue to feel safe and cherished. A home where her differences aren’t seen as limitations - but as part of her extraordinary story. She may never see the world - but she will feel your love.

Matche survived the unthinkable – now she needs a forever home.

Last summer, this brave girl was hit by a car, left with multiple skull fractures and a broken jaw. She was in critical condition, blind in both eyes, and fighting for her life. Her journey of recovery has been nothing short of a miracle.

After intensive care and a complex eye surgery (one eye had to be removed), she is now safe in a foster home, as healed as she can be. Her jaw doesn’t work perfectly, so she eats blended food and she has no vision – but none of that stops her from living her life fully. She’s a true survivor.

This is her story.
Matche spent three years on the streets, never knowing the safety of a home. She gave birth twice, but her kittens were taken away. She was neutered but never managed to find a home - just a makeshift shelter and regular feeding, thanks to a few kind people who cared.

She was an active, strong cat; always hunting, always full of life. Until that tragic day.
After the accident, she couldn’t see, smell, eat, or even use the litter box. But she fought through it all. Now, she navigates her foster home with confidence: she knows where her litter box and food are, and she uses them perfectly.

She lives peacefully with two other cats and children. She loves cuddles, is endlessly sweet, and just wants affection.

Matche is around 3 years old and fully adapted to indoor life as a blind cat. She is fully vaccinated, microchipped and FIV+FELV negative. Her current foster family loves her dearly, but they work in shifts and can’t give her the constant presence she craves.

What she needs now is a loving forever home. She deserves a quiet, loving home, where she can continue to feel safe and cherished. A home where her differences aren’t seen as limitations - but as part of her extraordinary story. She may never see the world - but she will feel your love.

Resilient Roki ⭐️

Roki is a fully sighted tripaw currently in foster in Serbia. This beautiful boy was born around 2019 and weighs 22kgs. Roki, named for his resilience and tenacious spirit, survived on the streets. Sadly, he was hit by a car resulting in a broken leg. How long he waited for help and how many people walked past ignoring his suffering is not known.

Finally, his luck changed and someone noticed him struggling - despite his pain this gentle boy wagged his tail while his leg was examined. His rescuer didn’t have the heart to leave him like that and took him straight to the vet. The vet said it was an old injury, so Roki had tried to walk on his leg for a month and no one had helped him.

His leg had to be amputated and he recovered well, but soon had to leave the safety of the hospital. As he couldn’t return to the street his rescuer found him a foster home, but there is little chance of him being adopted in Serbia. His rescuer says he has “a wonderful nature, despite all his suffering”.

Roki is now living in a home and is house trained. He travels well in a car and can go on a lead. He’s a low energy dog and is happy just to relax most of the day. He is wonderful with other dogs and lives with dogs of all sizes. Occasionally he will have a play with another dog, but most of the time he just enjoys being in their company.

Roki is good with people and his adorable gentle nature was evident from the start. He is very calm, and his tail is always wagging, especially when you chat to him. He gets attached to people very quickly and is happy to have a quiet fuss. He’s a ray of sunshine, with his golden coat, white paws and wise eyes.

Roki is hoping he will find a home where he is loved and treasured. His rescuer says who adopts him will be lucky and we agree.

Roki would love a home with a garden where he can relax, with a person or family that appreciate he doesn’t want long walks. He’s just happy with maybe a short pootle, but will give you great company and lots of love.

BLACK LAB lover? Meet Astor 😍
Born 2021, 25kg, fully sighted and currently in a private shelter in Serbia, we can’t say for certain about Astor’s breed mix, but we can say this: If you want a happy, greedy, glossy-coated doofus with a big tail that never stops wagging… look no further!

Astor is a bit extraordinary too. He was rescued from the streets in 2023; found with a broken front leg. Then, at the vets, an x-ray showed small calibre ammunition lodged in his chest. We have no way of knowing what happened to Astor, but the important thing is that he’s over it… he’s a shiny, brilliant, sunny dog that just radiates love and happiness.

During surgery, a rod was inserted into Astor’s leg to correct the break. The pellets were judged best not removed as they were not lodged in vital structures or causing any symptoms. The rod has now been removed, and Astor has bounced back wonderfully. He runs and walks normally and is an active boy who loves to play and explore.

Astor loves food and because he grew up on the street he currently prefers to eat separately from other dogs. He was very thin when he was found so has known hardship and the need to protect what little he could find. Nowadays though, it’s more likely he’ll want to eat ALL the food… his and the other dogs’. Not surprisingly he’s currently a little overweight. Long walks and playtime definitely required in his new home.

Astor has been overlooked for adoption in Serbia. Although he is perfectly active and mobile, (and looks beautiful posing amongst his pumpkins), the surgery has left him with a crooked leg. For that reason, nobody wants him.

But something tells us it will be different here….!

This lovable goofball is good with people and dogs. He travels well and loves his walks, running around, chasing a ball or playing tug of war. Astor is just waiting to find his family so he can share all his big-headed, brown-eyed loveliness. Form an orderly queue…

Malisa (born 2023) is a super sweet fully sighted tripaw looking for his best friend. He is neutered, weighs 20kgs and is currently in foster in Serbia.

Malisa was found skinny and suffering with an injured leg. Despite the pain he was in, his sweet nature was evident from the start. His rescuers say “he is really kind, he went through so many bad things but never lost his sense for love towards life and people”.

Malisa received veterinary treatment, but his leg eventually had to be amputated. His recovery went very well and now he’s a relaxed, happy boy who has adapted beautifully. Being a tripaw doesn’t hold him back, but unfortunately it means there is very little chance of adoption in his home country.

This boy has a wonderful nature; he’s calm, composed and sociable. He’s good with other dogs – whether they are big or small he is friends with everyone. While recovering at the vets Malisa met cats and never showed any kind of reaction. There are also cats that visit his garden, he shows no sign of aggression so should be able to live with cats with sensible introductions.

Malisa is living in a home and is a smart boy. He is already house trained and knows how to walk on a lead. He is medium energy level and loves playing but also enjoys relaxing.

He’s a handsome, noble looking chap with his floppy ears, white chest, tippy toes and chin. He has beautiful eyes and has perfected the adoring eye pose to ask for some love and fuss. Malisa is great with people and enjoys spending time with them. He loves a cuddle and is very keen on treats so should be easy to train.

His rescuers have done their very best for Malisa. They describe him as an angel who deserves happiness and feel he needs a family of his own (like every dog does). He has a wonderful character and their hope is that someone special will see that and give him a home as their best friend.

Look at our beautiful Romanian Duchess! She was born in 2022, weighs 24kg, and is as genteel, calm and kind as her name suggests.

Ducessa is partially sighted, totally people-centric and according to her Romanian fosterers, “simply adorable”.

Ducessa was rescued from the street but is used to living in a home environment and is house trained. During winter she lived indoors, but now the weather is good she spends a lot of time in the garden.

Ducessa lives with other dogs and is happy in their company. She does prefer slow introductions and calm, kind, friendly dogs (sounds like a sensible girl). She is also good with cats.

Ducessa has been examined by a vet who diagnosed progressive retinal atrophy, so her eyesight is likely to deteriorate further. She was absolutely no problem at the vets – in fact her photos taken there show her trademark smile.

For Ducessa people are her real love. She lights up with her humans and her tail is always wagging. Ducessa is very bonded with people, so prefers it when they are around. Like many dogs she may take time to settle in a new environment and politely requests that her adopters don’t leave her alone too long until she feels confident in her new home.

Ducessa can wear a collar and harness and has been on a lead. Going for a walk would be a new experience for her so she may need further training in this area.

A true Lady, with lustrous coat, long elegant muzzle and benevolent face, Ducessa’s kind eyes show she is a gentle, happy soul with a lot of love to give. She will light up the room with her soft kindness and trust.

You have probably done your best to get him noticed by the right kind of person, and we’re grateful for your help.

Bailey had a home trial that went very well - he was an absolute star - but the adoption didn’t go ahead as the resident cat took a dislike to him. Gutted!

Bailey’s recent report from the kennels (above) and lovely photoshoot speaks for itself. He is a well-behaved boy in the right circumstances will make someone a beautiful companion.

Bailey costs the charity £300 per month to keep in kennels, so obviously we’d like to find him a home and divert that considerable sum to our rescue work.

CALLING ALL TERRIER ENTHUSIASTS! Look no further than partially-sighted Little Leo - born 2023, 9kgs, neutered and in foster in Norfolk UK.
Leo is a typical terrier pup; naughty, clever, energetic and needing firm boundaries. He’s having a late puppyhood (after a difficult start in life) so life for Leo is either at full blast, as a pocket rocket who’s not easy to tire, or quiet as a mouse crashed out in his bed.

We are looking for a home who know how to manage terrier types - people who absolutely love their incredible enthusiasm for life, but also know how to calm and tire them: with love, exercise rules, routines and consistency in training from all members of the household.

Leo is happy, sociable, confident, playful and mischievous. Given half a chance he will steal things and chew them. He loves his toys. He will complain when crated, but ignore him and he’ll calm down nicely.

With other dogs, Leo will try to rule the roost (he steals toys off his calmer dog companion). He’s really good with dogs, but would benefit most from living with a dog larger than him who he wouldn’t try to bully. He can be rough and mouthy in play. Like many terriers, he has Little Dog Syndrome and is barky when he sees dogs out and about; mostly because he’s excited and wants to play.

Leo isn’t aggressive with cats but tries to play and will chase if they run. He should only live with very dog-confident cats if he lives with cats at all.

Leo loves people and is good with children. He has been lovely with his foster-carer’s dog-savvy 7-year old grandson.

Leo will need plenty of exercise, but when he’s tired he puts himself to bed or curls up in your lap. He’s incredibly affectionate and very food orientated.
Leo is fully housetrained. He can be left alone. He has already picked up several commands and knows ‘sit’. He walks well on the lead but pulls hard, so will need ongoing training in this respect.

With a little initial effort, Leo will become the most wonderful, bright, vivacious sparky little dog.

Gorgeous Guccio 💕
'When I saw him blind and so gentle, I took him…’
Dear little Guccio (born 2020 and 14kg) lived in the yard of a military unit in Romania. He may have been dumped there, he may just have been living amongst the larger dogs and fending for himself.

When the rescuer saw him, she knew she couldn’t leave the little chap there any longer, just sitting in the same spot. He asked her for nothing, but she could see he lit up at the sound of her voice, wagged his tail and he loved his cuddle.

Guccio now lives in a home environment, is housetrained and is about to be neutered. He is a little on the chunky side at 14kg, so could do with losing a few kilos. Guccio is happy to wear a collar and can walk nicely on a lead, and a little more exercise may help his waistline.

Guccio is blind. The vet believes this is due to a blow to the head - an accident or cruelty.
Guccio is a calm, quiet little dude with a medium energy level, but very friendly and affectionate when given the opportunity. He is content to go his favourite resting spot in the yard and chill.

'When I saw him blind and so gentle, I took him…’
Dear little Guccio (born 2020 and 14kg) lived in the yard of a military unit in Romania. He may have been dumped there, he may just have been living amongst the larger dogs and fending for himself.

When the rescuer saw him, she knew she couldn’t leave the little chap there any longer, just sitting in the same spot. He asked her for nothing, but she could see he lit up at the sound of her voice, wagged his tail and he loved his cuddle.

Guccio now lives in a home environment, is housetrained and is about to be neutered. He is a little on the chunky side at 14kg, so could do with losing a few kilos. Guccio is happy to wear a collar and can walk nicely on a lead, and a little more exercise may help his waistline.

Guccio is blind. The vet believes this is due to a blow to the head - an accident or cruelty.
Guccio is a calm, quiet little dude with a medium energy level, but very friendly and affectionate when given the opportunity. He is content to go his favourite resting spot in the yard and chill.

Sensitive Thomas...

The dog who needs a little more structure and routine, but who will be worth every second...

Thomas is an intelligent, affectionate, well-trained youngster with a very cute nose! Born in 2023, blind, and weighing 23kg, he’s currently living in Leicestershire but is looking for a new home due to his owner’s change in circumstances.

Originally from Romania, Thomas was surrendered to a shelter on account of his blindness. As the condition is genetic and stable, it doesn’t hold him back, and he’s extremely well-adapted.

However, it does perhaps account for his being reactive to new people and new dogs. Although he has a routine in place designed by a behavioural trainer, we are looking for adopters who are experienced in and willing to work with his reactivity.

Thomas has been living in his current home for a year, and in that time has proved extremely smart and trainable. He loves learning new commands; loves handling, and being active with his owner and would be a great candidate for agility.

Gorgeous Genny😍

Genny was scheduled to be euthanised at Lockom, a high-kill shelter in Sarajevo. With only days to go, a rescuer saw her, removed her and paid for her to live in a private shelter there in Bosnia.

Born in 2017 and weighing 30kg, Genny is thought to be a German Shepherd mix. She has the wonderfully intelligent face of those breeds and holds herself with such grace, despite looking a little sad in some of the pictures. Genny is blind in one eye but is otherwise in good health and is neutered.

Not much is known about Genny’s past. Presumably she had a home at some point, as she is great with people – gentle, friendly and loves a cuddle or a belly rub. She’s a beautiful, intelligent girl and is looking for a loving retirement home where she can give the love and loyalty that are trademarks of her breed type.

We aren’t asking much for lovely Genny. She is gentle, has a medium energy level and likes to rest. She walks well on the lead. She likes playing with other dogs and will happily bound around with them.

Chopper is a friendly blind boy. Born 2018, he weighs 18kg and is currently in private shelter in Hungary.

Chopper is handsome boy, with expressive brown eyes and brown short length thick fur. He is very friendly and interested in the world. It is not immediately obvious that Chopper is blind (due to detached retina). He does seem to be able to sense some light and copes very well with his lack of sight. It really doesn’t hold him back.

He loves going for a walk, to investigate all the smells and say hello to other dogs. Then is content to settle down for a nap. He enjoys being around people but is no problem when he is left alone. He's a happy chap.

Chopper is a lovely boy - he loves people and will happily share his kisses with you. He is always so pleased to see his carers and have a cuddle. He’s an affectionate boy who is just waiting to have his own people to love. Chopper gets on well with other dogs, but we don’t know how he is with cats.

It's unlikely that Chopper has ever lived in a home - his rescuer is hoping he will find a loving home and get to experience all the home comforts he has missed out on. He really deserves to find a forever home, where he gets lots of love and attention. Where he can finally know what it is like to be part of a family and to be loved.

Considered Cody 💙

Cody is one of our ‘forgotten’ dogs.
He’s a considered but friendly blind chap, born c.2015, weighing 32kg and looking for a quiet retirement home. Cody was surrendered in May 2023 and has been waiting in a private shelter in Bulgaria since then.

Cody isn’t looking for much. A quiet home, perhaps with a retired couple or person. Although a largeish dog (smaller once he’s had a haircut!) he isn’t cumbersome: he doesn’t pull on the lead and moves slowly and carefully.

Look at the pictures of him once he settled into the shelter and his nice new name: being groomed or trotting along; smiling away with his milky eyes once he’s had a good brush. He’s a beautiful beast with his long muzzle, gentle step and a coat like one of the gentle mystic Urru (for those of you who remember The Dark Crystal!)

Cody has been owned before so enjoys human company, travels well in the car and has good manners (see his nail clipping and haircut photos). He has bonded well with his shelter carers and loves walking with them, but he does take time to trust. New people can make him a little cautious; he feels safer initially with women and tends to prefer their company when he is getting acquainted. However, he has become friends with the main male carer at the shelter and now loves going for walks with him.

It's the same with dogs. Cody mixes well with other dogs in the shelter, but felt cautious and vulnerable initially, sometimes feeling the need to be protective about his food. Cody has made dog friends in the shelter, and we feel he could live with another calm dog given patient introductions and plenty of time to get acquainted. Cody would also be perfectly happy as an only dog.

As far as we know, Cody has always lived outdoors, so would need a calm and patient person, couple or family who are willing to show him the all the joys of living indoors and support him with housetraining if necessary.

Beautiful Betty 💕

Benjy is now Betty!
International rescue has many known challenges, but the simple ones like language barriers sometimes make us smile.

A lovely example we last week when we realised early introductions had got lost in translation and our Benjy was in fact female - she was off to have her spay operation.

So, with a wry smile we would like to re-introduce the beautiful Betty…

Born around May 2024, Betty is a one-eyed playful girl weighing 22kg. She has been neutered and is currently in a private shelter in Greece.

Despite her young age she already has a story to tell. She lived in the mines and was the only surviving puppy of her litter. At just 5 months old she was attacked by other dogs and her left eye was bitten and became infected. Despite receiving veterinary treatment her eye had to be removed.

Betty has bounced back from her injury and is a happy girl. She’s full of fun, energy and playfulness just like any other young dog and now needs to find her family to share all her love with.

With her golden coat, wagging tail and her sweet white paws, Betty is just gorgeous. She’s a friendly girl who is good with people and dogs. Betty has met cats at the shelter and shows no interest in them, so should be able to live with cats with sensible introductions.

Silas is perfect for adopters wanting a smashing only-dog. This sophisticated scruff-boy has class. He’s composed, handsome, well-mannered and charming. Born c. 2021, c.19kg, blind and currently in a private shelter in Bulgaria, Silas is going to break some hearts. Who needs other pets when you’ve got Silas?!

Silas’ preference for being an only pet doesn’t mean he has major behavioural issues. It’s simply that he has tended to display dominant behaviours towards other dogs and cats. For that reason, he would be best suited to being the sole pet in the household, and we think he would be happier in that situation.

Silas is friendly and receptive to human interaction. He’s the kind of dog you can easily forget is blind as he’s so confident in his ways and walks, and when a camera is turned on him he knows how to strike a pose.

Silas walks well on lead and is an outdoors, inquisitive dog who would make a great adventure companion.

His carers describe him as ‘smart, composed and easy going.’ You can see from the media that Silas is a positive dog who is happy in his own skin.

And last but not least: Silas has looks that mean he would have been snapped up on day one if it wasn’t for his wanting to be your one and only. He never takes a bad photo and rocks both of his looks – shaggy and smooth. Silas wears a bandana like it was a suit from Savile Row and probably deserves to be a social media phenomenon. 💛

Calm Max 🍀

Quiet boy Max was found in 2023, a small pup nestled up to his mother, who had died.

Fully sighted, neutered, and about 17kg, Max is sweet, considered, respectful, loves a stroke, is good with dogs and has been successfully cat tested.

His personality is described as ‘calm and gentle’ and his carers say he is ‘a wonderful boy’.

There was one other pup found with Max, a brother who was named Toby. Last year, Toby was adopted and is now living an absolutely wonderful life here in the UK.

Max was the quieter of the two brothers; he is still in a private shelter in Romania, waiting to be noticed.

Although born street dogs, Max and Toby had the advantage of growing up in safety and have turned into beautiful, happy young dogs.

It took Max a little while to come out of his shell, but now he enjoys playing with the other dogs in the shelter and loves a cuddle from the humans.

His carers say Max is considerate of his surroundings; he plays if invited but isn’t a hyperactive pup.

Max is the sunny colour of a yellow Labrador and like that type has a large black nose, dark chops and dark eyes that make a lovely contrast with his light coat. We think he might be Romania’s answer to the Andrex puppy!

He can look a bit thoughtful in some of his photos, and perhaps you’d be forgiven for thinking he remembers his difficult start in life… but then you see him smiling and playing and are reminded of how amazing and resilient dogs are.

Max is a jolly but patient pup with such potential. We hope he doesn’t have to wait much longer.

Quiet boy Max was found in 2023, a small pup nestled up to his mother, who had died.

Fully sighted, neutered, and about 17kg, Max is sweet, considered, respectful, loves a stroke, is good with dogs and has been successfully cat tested.

His personality is described as ‘calm and gentle’ and his carers say he is ‘a wonderful boy’.

There was one other pup found with Max, a brother who was named Toby. Last year, Toby was adopted and is now living an absolutely wonderful life here in the UK.

Max was the quieter of the two brothers; he is still in a private shelter in Romania, waiting to be noticed.

Although born street dogs, Max and Toby had the advantage of growing up in safety and have turned into beautiful, happy young dogs.

It took Max a little while to come out of his shell, but now he enjoys playing with the other dogs in the shelter and loves a cuddle from the humans.

His carers say Max is considerate of his surroundings; he plays if invited but isn’t a hyperactive pup.

Max is the sunny colour of a yellow Labrador and like that type has a large black nose, dark chops and dark eyes that make a lovely contrast with his light coat. We think he might be Romania’s answer to the Andrex puppy!

He can look a bit thoughtful in some of his photos, and perhaps you’d be forgiven for thinking he remembers his difficult start in life… but then you see him smiling and playing and are reminded of how amazing and resilient dogs are.

Max is a jolly but patient pup with such potential. We hope he doesn’t have to wait much longer.

HOBBS! The one-eyed cuddle monster who lost an eye due to being badly beaten when only a pup.

Born in 2021, and fostered in Hampshire, Hobbs is 24kg.

It’s easy to fall in love with Hobbs. He’s totally human-centric; loves everyone and has been lovely with children.

Hobbs is housetrained, crate-trained, sleeps through the night, responds to his name, is non-destructive, can be left alone, learns quickly, travels well, doesn’t counter surf… he even eats his greens.

Hobbs is a clever chap, and adventurous spirit too; inquisitive and excited to explore out on his walks. He loves a sniff, loves to play, and would probably be up for some agility training too.

Hobbs can be nervous and reactive outside the home. Hobbs has learnt to walk nicely on lead, but currently reacts to other passing dogs and some other noises or triggers. Because he is a strong and agile dog, it is essential his new owner can manage him physically. We have seen his reactivity improve considerably in foster care over time, but Hobbs is a work-in-progress outdoors and we are looking for adopters who are prepared to put the time into continuing his training.

Hobbs is looking for a calm, kind and understanding person or family who are interested in helping him overcome his anxiety and who will shower him with love. Anyone who meets him thinks he’s more than worth the effort; he’s already pretty much perfect in the home.

Although Thor is a Husky, we suspect he is also descended from The Honey Monster.

He’s an awesome, kingly beast full of joy, life and love. Born around 2014, blind and in a private shelter in Bosnia, whoever adopts Thor is unlikely to suffer a bad mental health day ever again.

Thor has a confident passion for belly-rubs, cuddles, and clumsy, fluffy affection.

His cool frosty eyes are really the only giveaway of his age. (The vet has confirmed Thor’s blindness is due to cataracts). Thor is a senior guy, but one of those active, happy types with amazing energy and who can pass for younger. Thor certainly gives age a run for its money.

Little is known of Thor’s early life, but as a pure breed it is likely he was somebody’s pet. Sadly, Thor was abandoned, probably when he lost his sight. It is not known for how long he sat patiently at the side of the road where he was left, waiting for his owner to return. Eventually he was taken to a private shelter.

Thor has been neutered.

Thor still adores people, and although he loves the staff at the shelter, he would love to have the opportunity to shower a new person, couple or family with affection again, and be loved in return.

Thor is good with other dogs. Like most blind dogs, he needs careful introductions and doesn’t appreciate being jumped on or bounded up to without a proper hello. He has learned to be respectful of other dogs’ space as he appreciates it for himself now but is accustomed to mixing with dogs at the shelter. Most of all, though, it’s human love he wants.

Thor is still active and would love a garden to leap around in, working that tail. He could be an only dog or live with other calm, respectful or maybe older dog(s).

Marvellous Mickey 😍
Mickey is a loveable, friendly chap who is around a year old (born 2024). He’s only a little one weighing 7kg, but is full of love. Micky is partially sighted and is currently in Macedonia.

Mickey was a stray dog who was collected by a public shelter to be neutered. Unfortunately, he was not vaccinated and while in the shelter he was diagnosed with distemper. Luckily it was caught early and he received medical treatment, the only consequence is that he is partially sighted (with a blue blurry eye).

That's all in the past and Mickey is now thriving! He enjoys life and doing the same things as any normal healthy dog. His adorable face will instantly put a smile on your face. His character is wonderful - he has tons of love to share with everyone he meets. He is very cuddly and playful and he loves giving kisses.

Mickey has a medium energy level and has started his lead training, although this does need further work. He’s good with other dogs. Mickey has been successfully cat tested. He was a little apprehensive so kept his distance. He should be able to live with cats who are respectful of his space. We don’t know if Mickey previously lived in a home, but at the shelter he sleeps in a bed in his pen.

Mickey is an incredibly friendly and sociable dog, known for his calm nature and gentle interaction with dogs, adults and children. He loves contact with people and is looking to find a home with a lov-ing family willing to share lots of hugs and life moments with him.

Mickey would like a home with a garden, where he can be part of the family and share all his love with you.

Born in 2018 and weighing around 25kg, Hiwa is the confident, sighted friendly girl, black with four white slipper socks. Aka is the beautiful one with his foxy face and eye-liner markings. He is also very friendly, calmer by nature, and blind.

You might not have considered adopting two dogs. But anyone who already has two dogs knows how they look after each other and keep each other company. And Aka and Hiwa have a very special strong bond. When settling into your home, not everything will be new to them as they will have each other. This special bonded pair were found on the street in a Bosnian winter at only two months old. Although they are bonded, Aka and Hiwa are independent too – in fact it’s hard to get photos of them together as they are often off playing or exploring solo when they get the chance. Both embrace life and will need plenty of exercise and walks. They are two perfect dogs in their own right, but one delightful combo of tongue-lolling, curly-tailed joy.

Rocky is a polite, retired German Shepherd gentleman with a wry sense of humour. He weighs 30kg, was born in 2016, and is currently fostered in Coventry.

Rocky walks beautifully on the lead; accepting a head collar willingly so he's easy to walk. Rocky is sedate, considerate and rarely pulls. Having worked for most of his life as a security dog for a business in Spain, Rocky has been carefully trained and is sociable, friendly and calm when meeting people. He accepts his treats very politely, travels beautifully in the car, and is quiet and restrained in the house (except when he plays, and then he is very vocal!).

Rocky is clever and slightly mischevious and makes his fosterer laugh every day with his antics. He likes to steal the things she leaves lying around and then bring them over to show her. Rocky loves to be involved in everything that is going on and would happily do activities such as scent training and obedience. His love of food makes training even easier!

Rocky loves to be around his humans, but can become anxious and bark when he is not around them, or when they are closeby but not in reach.

Although retired, Rocky is healthy, active, playful and very mobile; not showing any signs of slowing down. He was retired because he has Pannus (inflammation of the cornea). This is easily managed with eye drops and ointment (approximately £56 per month) and does not stop Rocky living a full life. Rocky would love to accompany you on lovely long walks and adventures. As he is very sensitive to having his claws clipped and has needed sedation previously, pavement walking would be very helpful!

A local rescuer noticed Hudson in the public shelter while recovering another dog from the dog catchers. They asked about him and were told he was found on the street in October 2023 and was an old dog around 10 years old.

Knowing he had little chance of help or a home when in the public shelter, they were determined to help him and believed he was only a young dog. They contacted BDRUK for help and Hudson was removed from the public shelter to safety. Hudson was a lucky boy and thanks to the determination of his rescuer is now thriving.

Hudson is a wonderful dog and has been thoroughly examined by a vet. The vet estimated his age as 2 ½ years old. He has also seen an eye specialist and his blindness is because the blood vessels on his retinas are damaged. It is not painful and there is no treatment.

Hudson is a lovely boy and it is thought he may have lived in a house before as he was immediately happy going up and down stairs. He is playful and has met other dogs, he can be a little cautious when meeting other dogs but is not afraid. Hudson has been successfully cat tested.

Hudson is a wonderful dog, cuddly and gentle. Although he is blind, he copes well and it does not pose a problem for him. He just moves slowly following sound and scent. When he is with people, he just follows them, on his own he is a little more careful.

FOREVER FOSTER OPPORTUNITY!

Gorgeous, gentle Louie.

Born in 2019, 25kg, fully sighted and currently in Bosnia, Louie looks a bit like a snow-dog with his wide open face and adorable big black nose like a lump of coal. Chosen specially to be a Forever Foster Dog, Louie would have his lifetime medical expenses covered by BDRUK.

Louie has that rare look about him that animals have sometimes when they could tell you a thing or two. He’s the quiet one who doesn’t say much, but we wish he could tell us his story. What we do know is that Louie was found on the streets being attacked by other dogs… but when he was taken to the vets it was discovered that he had fragments of shot in his body!

You’d hardly know anything was amiss with this graceful, happy chap, but Louie has muscle atrophy in a small section of his heart. However, this is managed successfully by medication and Louie lives a full life. It is likely, however, that he will continue to require medication for the rest of his days, and hence why we are offering to support him in Forever Foster. As you can see from the videos, dear Louie takes his daily pills very willingly!

Gorgeous, gentle Louie.

Born in 2019, 25kg, fully sighted and currently in Bosnia, Louie looks a bit like a snow-dog with his wide open face and adorable big black nose like a lump of coal. Chosen specially to be a Forever Foster Dog, Louie would have his lifetime medical expenses covered by BDRUK.

Louie has that rare look about him that animals have sometimes when they could tell you a thing or two. He’s the quiet one who doesn’t say much, but we wish he could tell us his story. What we do know is that Louie was found on the streets being attacked by other dogs… but when he was taken to the vets it was discovered that he had fragments of shot in his body!

You’d hardly know anything was amiss with this graceful, happy chap, but Louie has muscle atrophy in a small section of his heart. However, this is managed successfully by medication and Louie lives a full life. It is likely, however, that he will continue to require medication for the rest of his days, and hence why we are offering to support him in Forever Foster. As you can see from the videos, dear Louie takes his daily pills very willingly!

Delightful Dua ✨
Dua was born around August 2023. She is fully sighted and currently in foster in Macedonia.

Dua was found on the streets hiding under a car when she was just six weeks old. We guess that Dua broke her front leg trying to hide inside a car’s engine and was separated from her mother.

She was scared and had never experienced human touch, so she was afraid to come close to the rescuer. Her rescuer persevered for 5 days, feeding her regularly and finally managed to take her to safety. She was taken into a home environment with other cats and 3 dogs, and immediately started playing, like she has always been living with them

The vet that examined her said that there is a possibility that she can use her leg if we give her supplements and daily massage. She is still using her front leg, trying to lean on it and to clean herself with it.

Despite her front leg injury, she does everything that a normal cat does. She can climb, jump, open house doors. She is an independent cat that learns very fast and is toilet trained.

Dua is very gentle, and loves being stroked. She purrs very loudly and loves to sleep with her foster mom and her best friend, the dog Hannah. She also loves being independent, to wander around the house and tease the other cats. She initiates playing and engages the older cats into the play.

Dua is looking for a home where she can be loved and cared for. A home where she can feel safe, where she can continue her life with a family that would accept her as she is and will understand the needs of a cat with her condition.
