Welcome to BDRUK

Blind Dog Rescue UK is a small charity dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of blind and partially sighted dogs. We work with rescuers throughout Europe to save, provide urgent veterinary assistance for, and find these dogs forever homes in the UK.

We always need foster homes in the UK. As a foster you will help our most vulnerable dogs, allowing them to come to the UK to live with you until they find their forever home.

Laddie is one of our Sponsor only dogs in forever foster. Bruichladdich or Laddie for short is a large Doberman.

Sponsor a Dog

Many of our dogs are rescued and brought to foster families in the UK where they receive treatment for any ailments and learn to live in a family home. We fund veterinary treatment, flea and wormers, food, supplements and anything else that is required by our foster dogs to ensure they get back to full health and fitness.

Sam ✨

In November 2025, in a mountainous area of Greece with an altitude of 1300m, tourists discovered Sam: blind, abandoned, and starving. Taken immediately to the vets, Sam weighed only 12kgs; he should be more than 20kgs. The photo is too painful to publish.

Since then, Sam (estimated born in 2024) has been lovingly supported in recovery. He has been wrapped in warm coats, slowly gained weight, found his voice and loves life.

Sam is healthy, currently weighs 20kgs and lives in a private shelter in Greece. Once he has gained a few more pounds he will be neutered and ready to find his forever home.

Sam is an easy-going boy, full of curiosity. He is quiet in his kennel, but outside he confidently explores his surroundings, mapping out his environment. He is accustomed to his blindness and it doesn’t hold him back. In fact it’s difficult to get good photos of Sam as he is rarely still when following his nose and wagging his tail.

Sam is good with people and children. He enjoys being stroked and loves a treat or two. He is happy to wear a collar and has been on a lead but will need further training in this area.

Sam is very good with other dogs - he’s just a happy easy boy.

He is indifferent to the cats at the private shelter - there are far more interesting scents to follow and places to explore.

Sam is a beautiful boy with his huge velvet floppy ears, speckly long legs and his happy wagging tail. After everything he has been through, he deserves to find his happily ever after.

Sam is looking for a loving home with a garden he can explore. He will need guidance while learning to live in a home and settle into UK life. Sam enjoys the company of other dogs so a doggie friend would be ideal.

Every now and then there’s a dog who stands out because they effuse gentleness and acceptance. That dog is Joe. He hasn’t got much going for him - he’s older (born c2014), he’s large (30kg) he’s only got one eye, and his life has been pretty awful. But he is a gentleman. And we are all rather in love with him.

Joe is in a private shelter in Romania, but we are hoping someone will offer him a quiet retirement home here in the UK.

Joe was saved from Lancram public shelter in 2022. His eye was removed in 2023 (he had a tumour connected to his mandible, which has also been removed). He’s had no issues since and is well adapted to being partially sighted.

Joe is a beautiful soul. He is a loving, calm, quiet and gentle - friendly with everyone he meets, loves being stroked, never any trouble at the vets.

He’s good with other dogs - he shares a kennel with 2 other older calm dogs.

It is not known how he is with cats, but he can be tested.

Joe is good on the lead. He doesn’t need lots of exercise, just gentle walks, sniffing. Pottering around a secure garden.

Like so many dogs who have had hard lives, Joe’s teeth are not great, and he can’t open his mouth fully due to fibrosis of the temporo-mandibular joint, but he has no problems eating kibble as well as soft food. He has recently had dental work to get his mouth in good order for his retirement home. He has also had a recent vet check including bloods and is in good health.

REQUEST: Could anyone offer a foster home to Betty?

Betty is currently in a private shelter in Greece. That costs us 50 Euros each month.

Of course we would like to divert that money to our rescue work, but more importantly, we know Betty’s chances of adoption would increase massively if she had a foster home in the UK.

Somewhere that could get her used to living in a home, take some nice photos, tell us a bit more about her personality so we can write about her and generate some interest in her.

She is such a lovely dog but isn’t getting many shares or any enquiries.

Meet our little Ukranian refugee, Niki. Born 2024, neutered, 6.5kg and fully sighted, Niki is currently in foster in Norfolk, UK.

Niki’s rescuer brought her away from the conflict in Ukraine in hope of a better life. She enjoyed a Spanish foster, where she lived with 60 other dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages and of both sexes.

Niki’s fosterer describes her as ‘a very nice, young dog who is already well behaved and likes to cuddle a lot’.

Niki is active and who loves running around outside and playing near water, sometimes going for a swim. Her fosterer describes her energy level as ‘active but easily controllable’.

Niki has had some experience of walking on lead and is also undergoing some recall training, which is going well. However, as with any young dog, Niki is likely to need more training and input in her new home around all aspects of behaviour. Like any dog who has come this far, she will need patience and understanding.

Niki is beginning to show quite a confident, perky little character. She loves adventure and sometimes she likes to test her limits, like trying to steal food from the table. She will need the proper mix of affection and boundaries upheld in her new home.

Niki can live with dogs; she would ideally like to live with other dogs as she enjoys their company. She tolerates cats but her fosterer suggests the best home for Niki is one without cats. She needs an active home. One that is prepared to be patient and put time into training. If she is to be an only dog, dog friends to play with regularly would be nice for her.

Mally 😍

This is Mally. His rescuer didn’t think he had the right looks to be chosen. But inside that big brown clumsy body, there is a very loving heart. Mally loves people, and he absolutely loves to be loved.

Mally, born 2020, 34kg, is a Rottweiler cross (we have his DNA breed test) in foster in Romania. Mally has Degenerative Eye Atrophy and cataracts in both eyes.

Currently Mally can see very close in front of him, but it is thought that soon he may become completely blind. Although he bumps into things sometimes, he doesn’t care at all and is thoroughly enjoying a full, active and happy doggy life.

Mally was found in a Romanian high-kill shelter. He had been isolated because of his size. To ensure he was well socialised, he now lives with a dog trainer and 14 other dogs, a mix of neutered males and females.

Mally is generally good with dogs, but sensible, supervised introductions are always required. He can be dominant with unneutered males, (although Mally has not been reactive on walks). His trainer thinks the best home for Mally is as an only dog or with a female dog.

Mally is used to going out for walks on a collar and lead. He has a medium to high energy level, so enjoys a good long walk and then will settle down for a snooze in front of the fire.

Mally is now used to living indoors and enjoys home comforts. He will curl up next to you, rest his big, lovely head on you and close his eyes.

Mally has been well socialised. He likes going out in the car and happily jumps into the back seat. He loves going to the shops and meeting new people, always attracting a lot of attention and affection with his waggy tail and big happy milky-eyed face.

Mally has had a lot of love invested in him, and we are looking for a home who are ready to help him continue his journey, with people who can see his true beauty.

Mally is looking for a home with a garden, and someone to take him on long walks. He needs a home who will appreciate how affectionate he is and enjoy his cuddles. Large breed experience would be helpful.

Tery ⭐️
‘He stole our hearts with his need for affection and cuddling!'

Tery is the sweetest little terrier cross, and handsome too. Born c. 2023, 12kg, neutered and partially sighted, Tery was once a stray who was caught and dumped in the state shelter. Now he lives in a foster home in Serbia.

During his time in the shelter, Tery was picked on by other male dogs and attacked repeatedly. Shortly before his rescue, the poor chap was bitten all over his head. One of his eyes was so badly damaged that it needed to be removed. Hence Tery is now partially sighted.

Due to his horrific and repeated ordeals in the shelter, Tery is now wary of coming into close contact with other male dogs. He is not reactive on sight - as you can see from his videos, he’s not bothered by the presence of other dogs out on walks or in the distance.

As for female dogs, he is sometimes fine with close contact, but not always. Sometimes Tery’s trauma gets the better of him. Tery is tolerant of cats but like many terriers, wants to play with them and can be too rough.

Therefore, we think the best home for Tery would be as the only pet in the home.

Tery is very active and playful and will need an active home. He also needs people who will put in time to training him, guiding him, reassuring him and providing for his needs, helping him feel safe and secure.

Tery loves long walks. He can walk on a lead but does need extra training as he does pull hard sometimes. Tery needs regular physical and mental stimulation like any young terrier but sadly isn’t getting it currently.

Tery is very well behaved in the car and public places. He is used to living in a home environment. He really is a cracking little dog - let’s not let his past get in the way of finding him the home he deserves.

As his rescuer says, ‘if you give Tery love, patience, and guidance you will get the most loving, loyal, and happy dog’. Sounds like he might be worth it.

Bella 💖
“Everyone says she is wonderful little girl.”
That’s Bella, born 2023, 17kg, partially sighted and currently in private shelter in Serbia.

Bella is a beauty with her white fur and floppy honey-coloured ears. She is missing her left eye; nobody knows how she came to lose it, but she has had surgery to close it and has recovered well. Her right eye is absolutely fine. Bella is also neutered.

Bella is very good with people and children aged 8 plus. She hasn’t met toddlers so we don’t know how she feels about younger children. We do know she loves attention and will ask for a fuss.

Bella is a happy dog, with a normal energy level for her age. She can be excited when she meets people or dogs but calms down after she has said Hello. She has been good with all the dogs she has met so far. It is thought she is good with cats and should be cat tested again in a few weeks.

Bella lived on the streets for some time, so it’s unlikely she has ever lived in a home - but she would love to learn! She was clean when in the vet clinic had no accidents in her pen, the same in the shelter so far. Bella’s been very good and hasn’t chewed her bed or mattress and doesn’t seem to be a big barker.

Going for walks would be a new experience for her so she will need further lead training. Being a street dog, she would need to work on her recall for some months in a secure environment if she was ever going to be allowed off lead.

Bella’s rescuer is hoping she will find a home with someone who understands rescue dogs. Someone who will give her time to settle into home life and provide training in the areas that she needs. She’s just a young girl, so has plenty of time to learn all about UK life.

Bella would love a home with a garden to explore. A home who has time for her and will love and care for her – she’s worth it!

Enzo✨
Meet Enzo, born c. 2020, fully sighted, neutered and currently in foster in Serbia.

Enzo is described as “a wonderful dog. Such a truly lovely soul”. Enzo weighs 21kgs and is a bit of a chunky boy at the moment, so he’s been put on a diet.

Enzo spent months living on the street in front of a small shop. Later it was found out his owner had abandoned him there, and there Enzo stayed, sadly waiting for their return.

Enzo was taken to the safety of a private shelter, but as a sociable dog he was still alone and a little sad. Recently he has moved into foster to get used to living in a home. He is settling well and getting used to living indoors. He’s good with the other dogs and is a big cuddle-bug. Good boy Enzo!

Meet Enzo, born c. 2020, fully sighted, neutered and currently in foster in Serbia.

Enzo is described as “a wonderful dog. Such a truly lovely soul”. Enzo weighs 21kgs and is a bit of a chunky boy at the moment, so he’s been put on a diet.

Enzo spent months living on the street in front of a small shop. Later it was found out his owner had abandoned him there, and there Enzo stayed, sadly waiting for their return.

Enzo was taken to the safety of a private shelter, but as a sociable dog he was still alone and a little sad. Recently he has moved into foster to get used to living in a home. He is settling well and getting used to living indoors. He’s good with the other dogs and is a big cuddle-bug. Good boy Enzo!

Scooby (born c. May 2024) is fully sighted and weighs 32kg. He is currently in private shelter in Serbia.

Parsley 💕

Meet Parsley; born 2019, partially sighted, 10kg, neutered, and currently in foster in Serbia.

If you follow BDRUK you may remember Parsley: the little dog found in terrible condition in July 2025. He had been hit by a car and sustained an eye injury and damaged front leg.

Parsley’s damaged eye has sunken in, but despite his loss of vision it doesn’t bother him or affect his daily life.

His leg is now much improved; he suffered some nerve damage so does still have a limp, which is more pronounced when he’s tired or when it’s cold, but he is happy to walk and run. In fact he is a bundle of energy (8 out of 10)!

Parsley is looking for a home that will be prepared to put in a little time and effort. He may be small, cute and fluffy, but he’s a livewire who loves to play and run around.

Parsley is good with other dogs and loves to play with them.

Parsley has been introduced to a cat. He was interested in the cat and was keen to say hello. He may be able to live with cats with sensible introductions.

His character is described as “affectionate, cheerful, and playful”. He is good with people and loves cuddles. He is very forward in asking for affection and likes to nibble gently on his carer’s hands.

Who will offer a retirement home to a “gentle, sweet, and truly wonderful dog who has never had the chance to be loved”?

Callie was born c. 2013, is partially sighted, 20kg, neutered, and in a private shelter in Serbia.

Callie is looking for people who will be patient and supportive and kind, and not expect too much of her, as she has never had a home before and has known so little love. A home where she just has short walks, lots cuddles and a warm bed. Please.

Callie has had a very, very hard life. She spent almost her entire life on the streets, kicked and mistreated and sleeping on cold concrete. Two years ago, she was hit by a car and broke her pelvis and hip. A local rescuer took her to the vet where she had surgery.

Thankfully Callie recovered well. She has a slightly odd gait, but she happily trots along on her lead on short walks. Callie has the beginning of cataracts, and her teeth are quite worn down, otherwise she is in good health for a golden oldie.

Callie is in a private shelter with 40 other dogs, safe and fed. But her rescuer is desperate for her to find a home of her own. Callie’s rescuer tells us she is cheerful, calm and gentle, very friendly and loves human attention. Callie spends most of the day resting and loves to be stroked. She travelled well in the car to the vets and walks nicely on a lead.

“Such a lovely soul – whenever someone approaches her, she rolls over on her back, just wanting to be cuddled.”

Callie is good with other dogs. She recently had an overnight stay in a home environment in preparation for her photoshoot. She met the resident dogs with no issues.

Callie is a wise old soul with a lovely grey muzzle, oldie’s eyebrows and her amazing fluffy socks. Her nickname is Cupka meaning fluffy, and we can see why.

Lovely Lacey 💕
"There is a cute little girl who has been in my shelter a long time and desperately needs a family"...

Lacey. Born 2020, about 10kgs, partially sighted and currently in outdoor foster in Romania.

Lacey is so unassuming that it took a while before anyone at the shelter noticed she was partially sighted. A recent vision test at the vets showed that she can't see in the top part of her eyes; she tends to look down rather than up. But Lacey copes so well that she has likely had this restricted vision since birth.

"I found her wandering alone on a road and took her in", explains her rescuer. Even though Lacey is small, well-behaved and pretty, she hasn’t managed to get herself noticed and adopted. Can we do something about that?

"She is a very sweet dog that wants to play", her rescuer says. She loves human interaction and cuddles. Lacey’s energy level is medium - she often wants to play but at other times is content to sit quietly.

Lacey is good with people and is very loving. She gets along very well with other dogs. She has just been cat tested and showed no interest in the cat.

Lacey lives with many other dogs in an outdoor foster home. She is out in a play area with other dogs during the day and goes into her pen with the other vulnerable dogs overnight.

Lacey can wear a collar and harness and has been on a lead but will likely need further training. As she loves people she should be easy to train. Her rescuer thinks she should adapt easily to living in a house. Lacey has been neutered.

In some photos Lacey resembles a mini labrador with her soft round head and huge chocolate-button eyes (a very mini, short-legged one!) In other photos you will see she has the trademark Romanian curly tail and those ears that have a life of their own. Her dear little paws are so dainty she doesn’t make a very convincing street dog. She needs a sofa.

Rina is described as “fun and energetic”, she loves to walk and is great on the lead. She’ll happily walk for miles and would love stomping through and exploring the countryside with you as your devoted trail buddy.

At the shelter they say Rina’s “absolute gem” because she gets close to her people, is so excited to see them and greets them with a hug.

This is a long way from when Rina was found as a stray on the streets of Belgrade - sad, very skinny and hairless, suffering from Demodex mites. Then, Rina didn’t trust people so it took a while to catch her, but her rescuer was determined and eventually succeeded.

Rina needs a little time to adjust to new people, but once she knows you, she’s yours forever.

Rina is good with other dogs and loves playing with them. It is not currently known how she is with cats.

Rina is now healthy and has a gorgeous sandy coloured coat, dark elegant muzzle and very sultry eyes. As you can see from Rina’s photos, she has a whole host of expressions, not to mention one of the best smiles we’ve seen!

Who can forget the poor little Serbian scruff dog whose picture (shown first) kept us all awake at night?

He was found on the street having been hit by a car and left with an eye injury and a damaged front leg. He looked so pitiful and dejected. We named him Parsley.

We asked you for support with his veterinary costs, and you donated an amazing £1500!

You may remember that following veterinary treatment, Parsley went into a lovely foster home (with Cookie) in Serbia, where he was carefully and gently allowed to recover.

His eye is healing and doesn't seem to bother him or affect his life. His leg is much improved too; he still has a slight limp, mostly when he’s tired or when it’s cold, but overall he walks and runs normally.

And, what’s more, Parsley has got incredible energy! His foster Mum says 8 out of 10!

This dear little chap can’t wait for the next chapter of his life, and we are delighted to say that we will be offering him for rehoming soon! Watch this space…

His tail has healed completely. He’s happy, eating well, and really enjoys his walks. He has a special diet and is very well cared for by his Serbian foster Mum.

The vet thinks that although Cookie's tail has been amputated and the tumour removed, we cannot be sure of whether the cancer will eventually return. Nobody knows how much time he has left and we don't want to move an old chap who's happy where he is. For those reasons, the vet did not recommend he travel to be rehomed in the UK.

We will support Cookie's costs so he can stay in his happy place for the rest of his life.

If it hadn’t been for you, he would not be alive by now.

Lovely Lola 💖
This beautiful, gentle shaggy dog is called Lola. She’s a little deaf, a little wonky and partially sighted, but she’s very friendly, loyal and loves to be around children.

Born c. 2016 and c.25kg, Lola is in a foster home in Kent, UK.

We think Lola was a street dog for most of her life, relying on the kindness of locals. As she aged, Lola would have found it harder to run from the dog catchers. Inevitably she was caught and, sadly, taken to a high-kill shelter. One of our rescuers saved her and took her to live in foster with her own parents.

Now used to living in a home, Lola is housetrained, neutered and is used to walking on the lead. She likes a cuddle. She is curious and attentive and is relatively active for a golden oldie. Lola likes her walks, if they aren’t too long or it isn’t too hot outside!

This is Mihai 💕
He is blind. He was once chained, abandoned, shot and wounded. Now he is this beautiful, healthy young dog! Born 2023,10kg and measuring just 30cms to his shoulder, Mihai is currently in a private shelter in Romania.

Mihai was discovered on the streets in late 2024 with chain marks on his neck. At the vets, a bullet was found in his stomach and a hernia in his diaphragm. The vet was able to remove the bullet and repair the hernia. Mihai is now healthy (and neutered).

Despite his terrible start in life, Mihai is described as “confident and very loving”. He enjoys human company and loves to be around people. Mihai is playful, likes to explore and has a medium energy level. He is alert and interested in life, not a shy or nervous dog. His carers tell us he will say a friendly hello to strangers and “is happy to have strokes from anyone”.

While Mihai loves people, he is nervous around other dogs (presumably due to his past experiences) so he would like to be your only pet.

This next part will be a real bonus for some people… Mihai won’t need regular or long walks. Due to his concerns around other dogs, he will be content to explore and potter around a safe, secure garden, playing with toys or indulging in an occasional zoomie.

Possibly, and in time, Mihai could manage short walks in a quiet area. We can’t say for certain, but he is happy to wear a collar/harness and can walk on a lead. If you have access to secure private spaces, Mihai would probably enjoy time there too.

Mihai is a beautiful boy, almost like a tiny black and tan Shepherd with his pricked ears, and his clever, alert face with that butterfly marking on his forehead.

Mihai hasn’t had the good fortune to live in a home, but he’d like to learn how! He’s a clever confident chap who should pick things up quickly. He will just need a little guidance to to help him in his new life. He’s come so far and through such adversity, we can’t wait to see him bring joy to his next phase of his life… and maybe yours...

This costs a great deal - Lisa has been on treatment that cost £600 per month.

We already have several kind supporters who sponsor one or more of the special six, but we could really do with more.

Lucky Luka

Our ruggedly handsome Luka (born c. 2015, 24kg) is a clever partially-sighted chap who’s also very affectionate. His Norfolk foster-mum would love to keep him, but she knows Luka needs a stronger owner, and suspects also he would like a man about the house!

Before early 2025, Luka lived his whole life on the end of a chain in a yard in Bosnia, acting - supposedly - as a guard dog. His scarred face and broken teeth suggest he had been attacked by other dogs whilst left to fend for himself. Finally, when Luka’s owner wished to relocate, he was going to dump Luka in the woods. Luckily our rescuer found out and saved him.

Since coming to the UK, Luka has really come to life. His foster Mum thinks he’s younger than the estimated age on his passport. He is stronger and has a higher stamina level than when he was the sad old chap of his previous existence. That said, he is not hyper and restless, he is the quiet controlled type with lots of invisible determination.

Luka is strong on the lead. Also, because of his partial sight, he can glimpse potential threats in the distance and react strongly. He can be jittery out and about and wants someone to look after him who gives him firm routines, firm boundaries, straightforward commands, and good exercise. He needs a strong presence who makes him feel protected.
Luka is super intelligent and quick to learn - he has several commands down pat. He would enjoy intensive training such as parkour, playing football, ‘yomping over hills’ or just long walks.

Luka is good with dogs but like many with restricted sight, he doesn’t want to be taken by surprise and prefers to make relationships slowly. He lives with a cat (of whom he's a bit scared!).

Luka would like a home with a garden, with routines and daily exercise for him with someone who can handle a 24kg dog who is strong on the lead. He could live with other dogs and cats, pending the correct introductions. He loves men but would also love a family. Given he can be nervous out and about, a quieter location would work best for him.

Matche survived the unthinkable – now she needs a forever home.

After intensive care and a complex eye surgery (one eye had to be removed), she is now safe in a foster home, as healed as she can be. Her jaw doesn’t work perfectly, so she eats blended food and she has no vision – but none of that stops her from living her life fully. She’s a true survivor.

This is her story.

Resilient Roki ⭐️
Roki is a fully sighted tripaw currently in foster in Serbia. This beautiful boy was born around 2019 and weighs 22kgs. Roki, named for his resilience and tenacious spirit, survived on the streets. Sadly, he was hit by a car resulting in a broken leg. How long he waited for help and how many people walked past ignoring his suffering is not known.

Finally, his luck changed and someone noticed him struggling - despite his pain this gentle boy wagged his tail while his leg was examined. His rescuer didn’t have the heart to leave him like that and took him straight to the vet. The vet said it was an old injury, so Roki had tried to walk on his leg for a month and no one had helped him.

His leg had to be amputated and he recovered well, but soon had to leave the safety of the hospital. As he couldn’t return to the street his rescuer found him a foster home, but there is little chance of him being adopted in Serbia. His rescuer says he has “a wonderful nature, despite all his suffering”.

Roki is now living in a home and is house trained. He travels well in a car and can go on a lead. He’s a low energy dog and is happy just to relax most of the day. He is wonderful with other dogs and lives with dogs of all sizes. Occasionally he will have a play with another dog, but most of the time he just enjoys being in their company.

Roki is good with people and his adorable gentle nature was evident from the start. He is very calm, and his tail is always wagging, especially when you chat to him. He gets attached to people very quickly and is happy to have a quiet fuss. He’s a ray of sunshine, with his golden coat, white paws and wise eyes.

Sweet Ducessa 😍

Look at our beautiful Romanian Duchess! She was born in 2022, weighs 24kg, and is as genteel, calm and kind as her name suggests. Ducessa is in foster in Norfolk, UK.

Ducessa is partially sighted, totally people-centric and according to her Romanian fosterers, “simply adorable”.

Ducessa was rescued from the street but is used to living in a home environment and is house trained. During winter she lived indoors, but now the weather is good she spends a lot of time in the garden.

Ducessa lives with other dogs and is happy in their company. She does prefer slow introductions and calm, kind, friendly dogs (sounds like a sensible girl). She is also good with cats.

Ducessa has been examined by a vet who diagnosed progressive retinal atrophy, so her eyesight is likely to deteriorate further. She was absolutely no problem at the vets – in fact her photos taken there show her trademark smile.

For Ducessa people are her real love. She lights up with her humans and her tail is always wagging. Ducessa is very bonded with people, so prefers it when they are around. Like many dogs she may take time to settle in a new environment and politely requests that her adopters don’t leave her alone too long until she feels confident in her new home.

Ducessa can wear a collar and harness and has been on a lead. Going for a walk would be a new experience for her so she may need further training in this area.

You have probably done your best to get him noticed by the right kind of person, and we’re grateful for your help.

Bailey had a home trial that went very well - he was an absolute star - but the adoption didn’t go ahead as the resident cat took a dislike to him. Gutted!

Bailey’s recent report from the kennels (above) and lovely photoshoot speaks for itself. He is a well-behaved boy in the right circumstances will make someone a beautiful companion.

Bailey costs the charity £300 per month to keep in kennels, so obviously we’d like to find him a home and divert that considerable sum to our rescue work.

CALLING ALL TERRIER ENTHUSIASTS! Look no further than partially-sighted Little Leo - born 2023, 9kgs, neutered and in foster in Norfolk UK.
Leo is a typical terrier pup; naughty, clever, energetic and needing firm boundaries. He’s having a late puppyhood (after a difficult start in life) so life for Leo is either at full blast, as a pocket rocket who’s not easy to tire, or quiet as a mouse crashed out in his bed.

We are looking for a home who know how to manage terrier types - people who absolutely love their incredible enthusiasm for life, but also know how to calm and tire them: with love, exercise rules, routines and consistency in training from all members of the household.

Leo is happy, sociable, confident, playful and mischievous. Given half a chance he will steal things and chew them. He loves his toys. He will complain when crated, but ignore him and he’ll calm down nicely.

With other dogs, Leo will try to rule the roost (he steals toys off his calmer dog companion). He’s really good with dogs, but would benefit most from living with a dog larger than him who he wouldn’t try to bully. He can be rough and mouthy in play. Like many terriers, he has Little Dog Syndrome and is barky when he sees dogs out and about; mostly because he’s excited and wants to play.

Leo isn’t aggressive with cats but tries to play and will chase if they run. He should only live with very dog-confident cats if he lives with cats at all.

Leo loves people and is good with children. He has been lovely with his foster-carer’s dog-savvy 7-year old grandson.

Leo will need plenty of exercise, but when he’s tired he puts himself to bed or curls up in your lap. He’s incredibly affectionate and very food orientated.
Leo is fully housetrained. He can be left alone. He has already picked up several commands and knows ‘sit’. He walks well on the lead but pulls hard, so will need ongoing training in this respect.

With a little initial effort, Leo will become the most wonderful, bright, vivacious sparky little dog.

One of our Bosnian rescuers saw Flora being horribly mistreated by dog catchers in 2023.

They saved her, and we took her into our care. Although Flora was terrified of people, we hoped that one day we might be able to find her a forever home.

Sadly Flora’s ordeal was too much for her. She will never be ready for adoption.

We have committed to Flora, and we will do our best for her. We found her a quiet foster home in Scotland, where there are hardly any human visitors but several other dogs with whom she gets on really well. She is happy there and will stay for the rest of her life.

Gorgeous Genny😍

Genny was scheduled to be euthanised at Lockom, a high-kill shelter in Sarajevo. With only days to go, a rescuer saw her, removed her and paid for her to live in a private shelter there in Bosnia.

Can you help us find a loving home for her here in the UK?

Born in 2017 and weighing 30kg, Genny is thought to be a German Shepherd mix. She has the wonderfully intelligent face of those breeds and holds herself with such grace, despite looking a little sad in some of the pictures. Genny is blind in one eye but is otherwise in good health and is neutered.

Not much is known about Genny’s past. Presumably she had a home at some point, as she is great with people – gentle, friendly and loves a cuddle or a belly rub. She’s a beautiful, intelligent girl and is looking for a loving retirement home where she can give the love and loyalty that are trademarks of her breed type.

We aren’t asking much for lovely Genny. She is gentle, has a medium energy level and likes to rest. She walks well on the lead. She likes playing with other dogs and will happily bound around with them.

Genny is good with all male dogs and puppies, but is selective with which females she likes. It is not currently known how she is with cats. Genny has lived for seven months in a private shelter, has behaved very well and has not required any medical treatment. She has recently had a thorough vet check and was given a clean bill of health.

The rescuer who saved Genny’s life is really hoping we can find her a loving, safe home where someone will love and treasure her and appreciate she enjoys a slower pace of life.

Benjy is now Betty!
International rescue has many known challenges, but the simple ones like language barriers sometimes make us smile.

A lovely example we last week when we realised early introductions had got lost in translation and our Benjy was in fact female - she was off to have her spay operation.

So, with a wry smile we would like to re-introduce the beautiful Betty…

Born around May 2024, Betty is a one-eyed playful girl weighing 26kg. She has been neutered and is currently in a private shelter in Greece.

Despite her young age she already has a story to tell. She lived in the mines and was the only surviving puppy of her litter. At just 5 months old she was attacked by other dogs and her left eye was bitten and became infected. Despite receiving veterinary treatment her eye had to be removed.

Betty has bounced back from her injury and is a happy girl. She’s full of fun, energy and playfulness just like any other young dog and now needs to find her family to share all her love with.

With her golden coat, wagging tail and her sweet white paws, Betty is just gorgeous. She’s a friendly girl who is good with people and dogs. Betty has met cats at the shelter and shows no interest in them, so should be able to live with cats with sensible introductions.

Betty is used to wearing a collar and has been introduced to a lead but may need further training in this area. She's intelligent, inquisitive and loves a treat so should be easy to train. Betty is ready to learn all about living in a home environment and being a family dog.

Suave Silas 💫
Silas is perfect for adopters wanting a smashing only-dog. This sophisticated scruff-boy has class. He’s composed, handsome, well-mannered and charming. Born c. 2021, c.19kg, blind and currently in a private shelter in Bulgaria, Silas is going to break some hearts. Who needs other pets when you’ve got Silas?!

Silas’ preference for being an only pet doesn’t mean he has major behavioural issues. It’s simply that he has tended to display dominant behaviours towards other dogs and cats. For that reason, he would be best suited to being the sole pet in the household, and we think he would be happier in that situation.

Silas is friendly and receptive to human interaction. He’s the kind of dog you can easily forget is blind as he’s so confident in his ways and walks, and when a camera is turned on him he knows how to strike a pose.

Silas walks well on lead and is an outdoors, inquisitive dog who would make a great adventure companion.

His carers describe him as ‘smart, composed and easy going.’ You can see from the media that Silas is a positive dog who is happy in his own skin.

And last but not least: Silas has looks that mean he would have been snapped up on day one if it wasn’t for his wanting to be your one and only. He never takes a bad photo and rocks both of his looks – shaggy and smooth. Silas wears a bandana like it was a suit from Savile Row and probably deserves to be a social media phenomenon. 💛

Hobbs (born 2021, 24kg and fostered in Hampshire) loves everyone and has been lovely with children. He is incredibly affectionate and funny and loves cuddling up and watching TV, especially ‘Traitors’!

This clever, affectionate boy lost his eye due to being badly beaten as a puppy, but he is very well adapted to partial sight.

Hobbs was initially reactive when he first came into foster. With time, training, and getting to know Hobbs, it has become clear that the cause of his reaction to other dogs was frustration: he wanted to meet them and play. His fosterers have a routine in place where they ask him to check in before and during walks, staying in control. This is working well. He has been pack walking and even off the lead on occasion.

However, Hobbs is still a work in progress when he is outdoors, and therefore we are looking for experienced and patient adopters who are prepared to put the time into continuing his training.

Because Hobbs is a strong and agile dog, it is essential his new owner(s) can manage him physically.

He is a sensitive soul, very clever, but very sound sensitive; terrified of fireworks. We suspect there may be Shepherd in his breed mix.

In the home, Hobbs has beautiful behaviours: he is housetrained, crate-trained, sleeps through the night, responds to his name, is non-destructive, can be left alone, learns quickly, travels well, doesn’t counter surf.

Hobbs is a clever chap an dan adventurous spirit too; inquisitive and excited to explore out on his walks. He loves a sniff, loves to play, and would probably be up for some agility training too.

Hobbs is looking for a calm, kind and understanding person or family who are interested in helping him improve and who will shower him with love. Anyone who meets him thinks he’s more than worth the effort; he’s already pretty much perfect in the home.

Although Thor is a Husky, we suspect he is also descended from The Honey Monster.

He’s an awesome, kingly beast full of joy, life and love. Born around 2014, blind and in a private shelter in Bosnia, whoever adopts Thor is unlikely to suffer a bad mental health day ever again.

Thor has a confident passion for belly-rubs, cuddles, and clumsy, fluffy affection.

His cool frosty eyes are really the only giveaway of his age. (The vet has confirmed Thor’s blindness is due to cataracts). Thor is a senior guy, but one of those active, happy types with amazing energy and who can pass for younger. Thor certainly gives age a run for its money.

Little is known of Thor’s early life, but as a pure breed it is likely he was somebody’s pet. Sadly, Thor was abandoned, probably when he lost his sight. It is not known for how long he sat patiently at the side of the road where he was left, waiting for his owner to return. Eventually he was taken to a private shelter.

Thor has been neutered.

Thor still adores people, and although he loves the staff at the shelter, he would love to have the opportunity to shower a new person, couple or family with affection again, and be loved in return.

Thor is good with other dogs. Like most blind dogs, he needs careful introductions and doesn’t appreciate being jumped on or bounded up to without a proper hello. He has learned to be respectful of other dogs’ space as he appreciates it for himself now but is accustomed to mixing with dogs at the shelter. Most of all, though, it’s human love he wants.

Thor is still active and would love a garden to leap around in, working that tail. He could be an only dog or live with other calm, respectful or maybe older dog(s).

GENTLEMAN ROCKY 🎩
Rocky is a polite, retired German Shepherd gentleman with a wry sense of humour. He weighs 30kg, was born in 2016, and is currently fostered in Coventry.

Rocky walks beautifully on the lead; accepting a head collar willingly so he's easy to walk. Rocky is sedate, considerate and rarely pulls. Having worked for most of his life as a security dog for a business in Spain, Rocky has been carefully trained and is sociable, friendly and calm when meeting people. He accepts his treats very politely, travels beautifully in the car, and is quiet and restrained in the house (except when he plays, and then he is very vocal!).

Rocky is clever and slightly mischevious and makes his fosterer laugh every day with his antics. He likes to steal the things she leaves lying around and then bring them over to show her. Rocky loves to be involved in everything that is going on and would happily do activities such as scent training and obedience. His love of food makes training even easier!

Rocky loves to be around his humans, but can become anxious and bark when he is not around them, or when they are closeby but not in reach.

Although retired, Rocky is healthy, active, playful and very mobile; not showing any signs of slowing down. He was retired because he has Pannus (inflammation of the cornea). This is easily managed with eye drops and ointment (approximately £56 per month) and does not stop Rocky living a full life. Rocky would love to accompany you on lovely long walks and adventures. As he is very sensitive to having his claws clipped and has needed sedation previously, pavement walking would be very helpful!

Handsome Hudson 💫
Hudson is around 2 ½ years old (as of August 2024). He is neutered, weighs 15kg and is blind. Hudson is currently in private shelter in Serbia.

A local rescuer noticed Hudson in the public shelter while recovering another dog from the dog catchers. They asked about him and were told he was found on the street in October 2023 and was an old dog around 10 years old.

Knowing he had little chance of help or a home when in the public shelter, they were determined to help him and believed he was only a young dog. They contacted BDRUK for help and Hudson was removed from the public shelter to safety. Hudson was a lucky boy and thanks to the determination of his rescuer is now thriving.

Hudson is a wonderful dog and has been thoroughly examined by a vet. The vet estimated his age as 2 ½ years old. He has also seen an eye specialist and his blindness is because the blood vessels on his retinas are damaged. It is not painful and there is no treatment.

Hudson is a lovely boy and it is thought he may have lived in a house before as he was immediately happy going up and down stairs. He is playful and has met other dogs, he can be a little cautious when meeting other dogs but is not afraid. Hudson has been successfully cat tested.

Hudson is a wonderful dog, cuddly and gentle. Although he is blind, he copes well and it does not pose a problem for him. He just moves slowly following sound and scent. When he is with people, he just follows them, on his own he is a little more careful.

He is good with other dogs and likes to be stroked and brushed. He gets attached to people quickly and has a wonderful temperament. He has a medium energy level.

His rescuer is hoping he will find a home where he can be loved and treasured. Hudson would love a home with a garden and can live with another dog for company.

Delightful Dua ✨
Dua was born around August 2023. She is fully sighted and currently in foster in Macedonia.

Dua was found on the streets hiding under a car when she was just six weeks old. We guess that Dua broke her front leg trying to hide inside a car’s engine and was separated from her mother.

She was scared and had never experienced human touch, so she was afraid to come close to the rescuer. Her rescuer persevered for 5 days, feeding her regularly and finally managed to take her to safety. She was taken into a home environment with other cats and 3 dogs, and immediately started playing, like she has always been living with them

The vet that examined her said that there is a possibility that she can use her leg if we give her supplements and daily massage. She is still using her front leg, trying to lean on it and to clean herself with it.

Despite her front leg injury, she does everything that a normal cat does. She can climb, jump, open house doors. She is an independent cat that learns very fast and is toilet trained.

Dua is very gentle, and loves being stroked. She purrs very loudly and loves to sleep with her foster mom and her best friend, the dog Hannah. She also loves being independent, to wander around the house and tease the other cats. She initiates playing and engages the older cats into the play.

Dua is looking for a home where she can be loved and cared for. A home where she can feel safe, where she can continue her life with a family that would accept her as she is and will understand the needs of a cat with her condition.
