Character

‘’Slightly rotund but very grateful older chap seeks love and companionship’’

Born c. 2014, partially sighted and currently overweight at 23kg, Toto is a civilised, curious, soppy boy who loves company and pottering around the garden of his foster home in York.

Toto has reduced vision in one eye and walks with a limp due to arthritis in a front leg. We are looking forward to seeing him lose a good bit of weight as this should help his mobility and reduce pain. It’s important that his new owner(s) commit to helping him keep trim, as well as consider his ongoing mobility needs.  Toto currently takes pain medication (currently Loxicom, at about £35 per month) and a joint supplement (YuMove Joint Care for Senior Dogs) for his arthritis.

Toto is perhaps best thought of as a three-legged dog: he can’t climb stairs or get into the car, so his new owners will have to help him around. He is slow and unsteady and stiff and doesn’t like slippery surfaces. At the moment he doesn’t go for walks and may never need to - mooching around the garden is enough, or he could go out in a buggy for mental stimulation.

Toto spent many years in the Adjud public shelter in Romania before Annie’s Trust identified him for veterinary treatment and a foster place in the Halfway House.  He’s now making up for lost time by rolling on grass, having his lovely thick coat brushed, sniffing to his heart’s content and showing how thankful he is with his happy face and waggy tail.

Toto currently lives with three cats; he is settling with them although they do not mix closely. We would advise that only confident dog-savvy cats that would not run from him would make suitable companions.

Toto has been beautifully clean in his foster from day one and is such a lovely, easy dog to have around. He is quiet, unphased by noises, and he can be left alone quite happily for a few hours. He likes a fuss, will come when called and has a deep mane you can bury your face into. He’s very willing, settles quickly, learns quickly and sleeps soundly through the night without needing to be in a crate.

He may have a double chin at the moment, but you can see that Toto’s still got a twinkle in his eye.  Wouldn’t it be lovely to see that smiling, quizzical face saying, ‘thank you’ every day?

Type of Home Sought

Toto has spent most of his life living with other dogs and would enjoy their company. He could also live as an only dog (as he does currently). He would need a garden and understanding owner(s) who will enable him to lose weight despite the fact that he cannot walk much.

Our adoption donation is £255. This includes travel to the UK, their vaccinations, pet passport, microchip and all preparation for travel. They also come with 5 weeks free insurance (excluding The Channel Isles & Isle of Man).
